Xiaomi in the crosshairs? Motorola unveils affordable Moto G86 5G and G56 5G

Xiaomi in the crosshairs? Motorola unveils affordable Moto G86 5G and G56 5G

After having occupied the beginning of 2025 by renewing its flagship ranges, Motorola continues by lifting the veil on two more affordable smartphones. The moto g86 5G and moto g56 5G join the ranks of the Lenovo brand's "g" range by focusing on three aspects: the battery, the screen and the AI-boosted camera.

Moto g86 5G: a refined design for a versatile smartphone

With its slim leather-effect design and materials borrowed from more upscale models, the moto g86 5G is rather attractive. It adopts Motorola's signature style by being thin (7.87 mm thick), rather light (185 g) and resistant thanks to its dual IP68/IP69 certification. Additionally, it meets military durability standards, with 16 tests validated against MIL-STD-810H standards.

The Motorola moto g86 5G hides an interesting configuration, starting with a 6.7-inch pOLED display (Super HD) that is announced as 2.8 times brighter than its predecessor. The panel adds a 120Hz refresh rate, HDR10+ certification, and Corning Gorilla Glass 7i protection. To complete the multimedia experience, there is Hi-Res sound with Dolby Atmos compatibility.

Under the hood, we find the MediaTek Dimensity 7300 processor, supported by 8GB of RAM (expandable up to 24GB via RAM Boost) and 256GB of storage. To keep up, the moto g86 5G adds a 5200 mAh battery, compatible with 30W TurboPower charging. Connectivity includes Wi-Fi 6 and NFC.

On the photo side, Motorola relies on a 50 MP Sony LYTIA 600 main sensor, equipped with Quad Pixel technology and optical stabilization (OIS). The brand accompanies it with moto ai's Photo Enhancement Engine to optimize colors, sharpness and exposure in real time. An 8 MP ultra wide-angle and macro sensor as well as a 32 MP selfie camera complete this arsenal. On the video side, we have the right to recording in 4K UHD at 30 fps with the main camera, but also with the ultra-wide angle and even the front camera.

Moto g56 5G: endurance and resistance for less than 300 euros

The moto g56 5G, meanwhile, is aimed at those who are looking above all for reliability and endurance, without compromising on style. It also boasts a premium chassis, also IP68/IP69 certified and meeting the requirements of the military standard MIL-STD-810H. This model offers a 6.72-inch Full HD+ LCD screen, with a refresh rate of 120Hz and benefits from protection by Corning Gorilla Glass 7i. Motorola adds stereo speakers with Bass Boost and Dolby Atmos sound to enhance the multimedia experience.

In terms of photography, it has almost nothing to envy its big brother since it has the same main sensor 50 Mpx Sony LYTIA 600, an ultra wide-angle of 8 Mpx and a 32 MP front camera, all supported by Motorola's AI technology. Here again, we are entitled to a 5200 mAh battery and 30 W TurboPower fast charging. Under the hood, the moto g56 5G opts for a MediaTek Dimensity 7060 processor (6 nm), with 8 GB of RAM expandable up to 24 GB via RAM Boost and 256 GB of storage. It also integrates NFC.

Both devices arrive directly under Android 15, but the manufacturer does not dwell on its software policy. If we follow that of the previous models, we can expect, at least, two major Android updates and four years of security patches.

Pantone colors and affordable prices

Motorola continues its successful collaboration with Pantone and the moto g86 5G comes in Spellbound (gray), Cosmic Sky (purple), Chrysanthemum (red), and Golden Cypress (green). It will be available in mid-June for 349 euros.

The moto g56 5G** comes in PANTONE shades Black Oyster (black), Dill (khaki), Dazzling Blue (blue), and Gray Mist (sky gray). It will arrive a little earlier, in early June, for 279 euros.
