YouTube is testing a Premium subscription for two: a good compromise compared to current offers

Today, millions of users have a YouTube subscription, allowing them to avoid ads and enjoy their favorite videos instantly. But there are only two plans, which are the individual subscription at 12.99 euros per month and the family subscription at 23.99 euros.

And this can represent a certain cost, especially for people who are only two in a household, such as couples or roommates. So, to address this issue and target new individuals, Google has decided to launch an intermediate offer for two people, according to our colleagues at MoneyControl.

A Premium and economical offer for YouTube users

Currently, this subscription is available in several territories such as India, France, Taiwan and even Hong Kong. And in fact, it will allow people who are in a relationship or those who are roommates and who live under the same roof to save money while benefiting from a premium service.

But that's not all, because the accounts will obviously be separate. And it should not be forgotten that the offer is reserved for users aged 13 and over.

Regarding the price of this subscription, it is possible to take an example from India. Indeed, it is the first country to be able to benefit from this unique service.

As a result, this package costs 219 rupees per month, which represents approximately 2.29 euros in France. For comparison, the individual subscription is 149 rupees, or around 1.56 euros, and the family subscription is 299 rupees, or 3.12 euros.

If YouTube, which recently unveiled a digital AI to compete with TikTok, adopts the same pricing strategy in the United States, then the plan for two people will cost between $18 and $19. This is while two individual subscriptions currently cost $28.

For France, the prices will be almost the same. This will allow all YouTube Premium users to make drastic savings while avoiding endless ads.

A new growth lever for YouTube?

For some time now, YouTube has had many ideas for increasing its subscription revenue. It must be said that the American giant has launched a war against VPNs and ad blockers by preventing users who have these software from watching videos on the platform.

But that's not all, because more and more offers are emerging, such as the Premium Lite subscription which is arriving in Europe. With the latter, users can enjoy their favorite videos without ads. However, they are present on music videos and short films.

Available at a price of 5.99 euros per month, it could be a significant substitute for some people. And this, even though the Premium subscription dedicated to duets could be a great success, to the great delight of YouTube.
