While most of the time, actors and actresses are rather grateful for their first role, or for certain cult characters they have played, sometimes it's not the same feeling. Today, we look back at 10 actors who hate their cult roles!
10) Robert Pattinson hates Twilight
It's hard to blame him. In 2008, Robert Pattinson became the face of the Twilight franchise. The role of Edward Cullen would then accompany him through 5 films until 2014. If Twilight was a real springboard for his career, today, Robert Pattinson does not hide his resentment towards this character, even though he is a cult figure. From the beginning of the 2010s, Robert Pattinson did not mince his words:
He is the most ridiculous character ever imagined. The further I read the script, the more I hated it.
He also wasn't kind to Stephenie Meyer, the author of the Twilight literary saga:
I'm convinced that woman is completely crazy! She's in love with her own creation!
9) Kate Winslet hates Titanic
Yet she starred in the greatest romance of the late 20th century. Despite this, Kate Winslet doesn't particularly like James Cameron's film. More precisely, she doesn't like his portrayal of Rose:
In every scene, without exception, I wonder how I could have acted like that. I can't even stand my American accent. I have trouble watching myself in general, but with Titanic it's worse than anything.
8) Sean Connery hated James Bond
Sean Connery was undoubtedly the greatest James Bond of all time. And yet, the British actor didn't hold the famous spy dear to his heart. So much so that once his career took off, he donated part of his salary to charity. With each new opus, producers had a hard time keeping him. He eventually abandoned the role after his seventh performance in Never Say Never Again. According to AlloCiné, he even stated that: I always hated playing that bastard James Bond. I wanted to kill him!
7) Jessica Alba hates Fantastic Four
Apparently, during the filming of Fantastic Four, director Tim Story asked Jessica Alba to play less well because her emotions took up too much space on screen. A very unpleasant experience for the actress, who even considered quitting her acting career after this disastrous experience on the set of the Marvel film.
6) Carrie Fisher hates Star Wars
It's a bit of a trend to hate Star Wars. In her memoirs, Carrie Fisher wrote that "Star Wars ruined my life." It must be said that the actress was suffering from cocaine addiction at the time, which probably didn't help. She also often criticized her low-cut costume in Return of the Jedi, which is understandable. But to say that Star Wars ruined her life... Hard to believe...
5) Megan Fox hates Transformers
Have you always wondered why Megan Fox was no longer in the cast of Transformers 3? Well, because Michael Bay simply fired her. In fact, Megan Fox doesn't have anything against Transformers in particular, but she hated Michael Bay. Their relationship deteriorated quickly, and in interviews, the young woman outright compared the director to Hitler. She often recalled that it was a nightmare working with this man. Michael Bay, resentful as he is, then deliberately put obstacles in Megan Fox's way, pushing his colleagues to keep the young woman away from movie sets. It wasn't until Ninja Turtles in 2014 (5 years after the release of Transformers 2) that the two artists reconciled and Megan Fox found a place in Hollywood in a film produced by... Michael Bay.
4) Michelle Pfeiffer hates Grease 2
In 1982, four years after the release of the first installment, Michelle Pfeiffer took over from Olivia Newton-John. John Travolta was no longer in the picture, and this sequel was much less appreciated than the immense original classic. Even Michelle Pfeiffer doesn't hold Grease 2 dear to her heart, as she told AlloCiné:
I hate that movie. I can't believe how bad it is. I was young and didn't really know what I was getting into.
3) Alec Guinness hated Star Wars
Alec Guinness was a huge stage actor who enjoyed immense fame among his peers. In his twilight years, he achieved worldwide fame thanks to his role as Obi-Wan in the Star Wars franchise. A role that was definitely iconic and yet not close to his heart. He considered these films to be total failures, like "fairy tale trash" as he wrote to a friend during the filming of A New Hope.
2) Harrison Ford hates Star Wars
Harrison Ford is tired of being talked about as Han Solo everywhere he goes. A role that sticks to his skin. Regularly, in interviews or on television sets, Harrison Ford enjoys denigrating his character, or even the franchise as a whole. He even tried to kill off his character in Return of the Jedi, but George Lucas decided otherwise. Despite this hatred for his character, it didn't stop him from returning to the role of Solo for The Force Awakens... Anyway, we get the impression that Harrison Ford hates all his roles...
1) Daniel Craig hates James Bond
It's definitely fashionable to hate James Bond too. Daniel Craig wanted to stop playing Agent 007 after Spectre. At the time, he said that it was a role too difficult to bear, that filming was exhausting, and that the media exposure was too heavy. He even declared:
I would rather slit my wrists than do another one.
Yet he came back for No Time to Die, without slitting his wrists, for a big check...
