This Thursday, June 19, cybersecurity researchers revealed that they had updated an astronomical data leak: according to them, no less than 16 billion passwords have been compromised. The discovery of these credentials on the dark web concerns social networks like Facebook as well as government platforms. Our colleagues at Forbes report on their site that Vilius Petkauskas, of Cybernews, has been investigating the leak since the beginning of the year: 30 exposed data sets containing from a few tens of millions to more than 3.5 billion records each have been discovered. Forbes specifies that new information will soon be added to the article, and that password sharing, a common practice, should be absolutely banned. Preventively changing passwords for combinations via Authenticator, for example, is strongly recommended.
