A bigger screen for the iPhone 17?

A bigger screen for the iPhone 17?

Even though iPhones consistently remain the best-selling smartphones in the world, Apple shouldn't rest on its laurels. Competition is fierce, and the iPhone is no longer necessarily the device to copy—even if the manufacturer's new features, such as the camera shutter button, inevitably inspire rivals.

The iPhone 17 on par with the iPhone 17 Pro

It's therefore important to launch new products every year to rekindle consumer interest. Some vintages are less inventive than others, but the 2025 edition of the lineup is expected to bring substantial changes: a camera "strip" on the back instead of the hump, an ultra-thin "Air" model... and, perhaps, a larger screen for the iPhone 17.

At least, that's the prediction of Ross Young, DSCC analyst and display industry specialist. He announces that the iPhone 17, the base model, will have a 6.27-inch screen, instead of the 6.1 inches of the iPhones that preceded it. In fact, the iPhone 17 will have the same diagonal as the iPhone 17 Pro. As for a hypothetical iPhone 17 Plus, it would be replaced purely and simply by the iPhone 17 Air which would have a screen of around 6.6 inches.

This rumor of a larger screen for the iPhone 17 is not new, we have been hearing about it regularly for several months. It is also rumored that this model would finally be entitled to the ProMotion technology of screen refresh up to 120Hz, reserved until now for the iPhone Pro. It is about time: all Android smartphones - including mid-range - offer such a function.
