A controller to transform Lenovo's latest gaming tablet into an (almost) pocket-sized console

Lenovo has just launched the Legion G9 in China, a controller designed specifically for its Legion Y700 Gen 4 gaming tablet. The accessory transforms the tablet into a hybrid that looks just like a portable console, while retaining the advantages of a classic tablet.

Joysticks that don't give up

At 399 yuan (around €50), the accessory remains reasonably priced for a gaming controller. But beware, this isn't low-end: Lenovo has focused on technologies usually found on much more expensive devices.

The controller adopts the asymmetrical design of Xbox controllers, but with a light gray finish that gives it a modern feel. The big plus is the Hall effect analog joysticks. This magnetic technology is solid: more precise than traditional mechanisms and, above all, it lasts over time. No more drift problems that ruin players' lives after a few months.

The same goes for the triggers, which use the same technology. The result: top-notch response times and rock-solid reliability. Lenovo has also added four programmable buttons on the back, perfect for customizing your controls to suit your gaming habits.

On the bling side, the controller features RGB LED strips, and a dedicated app lets you configure everything: key mapping, sensitivity, custom macros, etc.

The most impressive thing is the attachment system. The tablet clips in perfectly without blocking the speakers—an important detail when you consider that sound is an integral part of the gaming experience. Lenovo has even thought about ventilation with strategic cutouts and heat-dissipating materials. The connection is via USB-C, which limits latency as much as possible. A significant point for gamers looking for responsiveness.

The manufacturer is also preparing a Legion G9 Pro that promises to be even more robust. On the program: integrated audio system, vibration motors and optical buttons for the main controls. These optical switches work with light and are even faster than anything else out there.

For now, there is no price or date for this Pro version (except in China). And in terms of availability, there's no official announcement for an international release, although given the success of previous Legion products, it shouldn't be long.
