This was one of the surprises that was unfortunately revealed early. Aside from a few rumors, the Xbox Game Showcase was spared from the untimely leaks that would have spoiled the party. Unfortunately for Focus Entertainment, one of their social media ads was released early, revealing the existence of an upcoming A Plague Tale game with a brand new protagonist. It was therefore unsurprisingly during the American giant's conference that the game was revealed to the world.
Resonance A Plague Tale Legacy announced
Three years after making us cry with Requiem, Asobo is back with a brand new game. Resonance A Plague Tale Legacy, to give it its full name, will take the form of a prequel set 15 years before the events of the first game. We will follow Sophia, a pirate encountered by Amicia and Hugo during their second adventure. Here, she will be just a simple plunderer whose adventures will take her to the famous Minotaur Island where she will have to face deadly trials, solve puzzles and stay one step ahead of the army pursuing her. Due to the spin-off, the atmosphere will be very different, as will the gameplay, which will be more action-oriented.
"We wanted to further explore the world of A Plague Tale with another character that is dear to us, but with a more action-oriented experience," explains David Dedeine of Asobo Studio in the official announcement press release. With Resonance, the French company wants to explore themes, locations, and eras that they haven't yet touched. They also want to try a "fresher approach with intuitive and rewarding combat" that relies on a new manifestation of the Macula, the mysterious illness at the center of the franchise's plot.
A release planned for 2026
Pursued by enemies drawn to the legend and the treasure, Sophia will have to make her way through the mythical creature's labyrinth. Agility, ingenuity, reflexes, and parries will therefore be required, as will the ability to move from one era to another, switching to the Minoan era, "where echoes of the past shape the battles of the present," we are told. For gameplay, we will have to wait a little longer. Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy is planned for sometime in 2026 on PS5, Steam, and Xbox Series. And yes, it will be available day one on Xbox Game Pass.
