Xiaomi is shaking up its habits with its upcoming high-end smartphones. Four models will be launched instead of three, including a compact Xiaomi 16 Pro. One of the devices will feature a screen on the back, as was the case with the M11 Ultra.
Xiaomi is preparing changes for the 16 series of its main premium range. According to tech blogger Kartikey Singh, at least one model will feature a second screen on the back of the smartphone. This isn't the first time the brand has tried this design, as the Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra already had a screen on the back a few years ago. But this feature had since been discontinued by Xiaomi on its products, aside from the Mix Flip Foldable.
On the Mi 11 Ultra, this secondary screen was mainly used to display information via Always-On Display. It could also be used to control the music player, preview the photo taken with the main sensor, check messages, or see who's calling. The source does not detail what improvements are expected for the next generation. She specifies that it is not the Xiaomi 16 Ultra that will benefit from it, without revealing the identity of the mobile phone(s) that will benefit from it.

Kartikey Singh also reveals that four smartphones are expected for the series:
- The Xiaomi 16 with a 6.36-inch screen
- The Xiaomi 16 Pro with a 6.5-inch screen
- The Xiaomi 16 Pro Max with a 6.8-inch screen
- The Xiaomi 16 Ultra with a 6.8-inch screen
The true successor to the Xiaomi 15 Pro is actually the Xiaomi 16 Pro Max. The Xiaomi 16 Pro can be considered a Xiaomi 16 Pro Mini. “Initially, the brand planned to call them Xiaomi 16, Xiaomi 16 Pro, Xiaomi 16 Pro Mini, but “Mini” doesn’t sound good for Xiaomi, so this terminology was rejected and we now have Pro and Pro Max,” explains the blogger.
It remains to be seen which models will be available in France. On the last generations, only the base version and the Ultra configuration were sold here, depriving us of the Pro model. The Xiaomi 16 will be announced in China in the fall, but we will have to wait until the beginning of next year to see them arrive in France.
Someone was asking a few days back why the names are like this? Well initially the brand was going to name it as Xiaomi 16, Xiaomi 16 Pro, Xiaomi 16 Pro Mini, but the 'Mini' doesn't sound good to Xiaomi so this terminology is rejected and we have Pro and Pro Max
