Alien Earth: 5 things to remember from the Disney+ series trailer

Alien Earth: 5 things to remember from the Disney+ series trailer

After the pleasant surprise Alien: Romulus last year, the universe of the Xenomorphs will once again be explored through the first Alien series. Developed by Noah Hawley, the series Alien Earth is expected on August 13 on Disney+. With a new trailer just released, here's what you need to know about these new images.

5) A new heroine

In keeping with tradition, Alien Earth will feature a heroine. After the famous Ripley (Sigourney Weaver) and the recent Rain (Cailee Spaeny), it will be Wendy's (Sydney Chandler) turn to face the terrible Xenomorphs. The series thus respects the legacy of Ridley Scott's film by offering fans a new heroic and strong female figure. This time, however, things will be a little different since Sydney Chandler plays the first hybrid prototype. Suffering from an incurable disease, her consciousness is transferred at a very young age into a synthetic envelope. She will evolve between humans, cyborgs and synthetic beings. A way for Alien Earth to once again develop the franchise's strong themes: namely eugenics and its relationship to the notion of humanity.

4) A superb aesthetic

We feared that the retranslation of the Alien license to the small screen would be kitsch. These new images tend to reassure us. The aesthetic of Alien Earth seems absolutely splendid. The photography, the color grading, the special effects, everything seems to respect the source material. Once again, Noah Hawley seems to be staging a retro-futuristic take on the Alien universe, somewhere between technology and grime. The franchise's signature dark, industrial aesthetic seems to be there.

3) A plot set on Earth

With the exception of Alien vs Predator Requiem, the Alien Earth series will, for the first time, take the Xenomorphs to Earth. The series' plot takes place in 2120, just a few years before Ripley's first encounter with the alien creatures. We don't yet know how the series will fit into the rest of the franchise's canon, but the idea of setting the show's plot on Earth is absolutely brilliant. This will allow for the creation of new horror themes, more realistic, closer to us, in more common, more familiar settings. A way to approach the terror of Alien through a new prism.

2) New creatures

While the Xenomorph is the iconic creature of the Alien franchise, over the years, viewers have had the opportunity to cross paths with other creatures. The Facehugger, the Engineers, the Queen Xenomorph, the Dog Alien, the Newborn, and the Noemorph are just a few examples among many others. Yes, whatever people say, the Alien saga is full of variants of the famous Xenomorphs (even if they are our favorites). Alien Earth should logically present new creatures since the trailer teases the appearance of at least 5 different aliens. We can't wait to meet these newcomers.

1) The Xenomorphs

Obviously, they are the stars of the Alien saga. Created by Hans Ruedi Giger, these particularly dangerous extraterrestrials have hypnotized generations of moviegoers since 1979. Sacred monsters of the seventh art, the Xenomorphs are a mixture of deep fear and fascination. Iconic creatures that we always appreciate. Ultimately, when you dive into an Alien, it's above all to get a thrill from the Xenomorphs. And we're not going to lie, we missed them a little in Prometheus. But that's good, they'll also be there for Alien Earth!
