The vivo X Fold 5 will become the lightest foldable smartphone in the world, without compromising on battery capacity.
For some time now, smartphone manufacturers have been engaged in a battle for thinness and lightness. This is particularly the case in the foldable segment, whose design is much more complicated than that of traditional mobiles, and which can suffer from a design that is too heavy or too thick to convince consumers to take the plunge.
Han Boxiao, an executive at vivo, has shared visuals of the brand's upcoming X Fold 5. The foldable smartphone is placed next to an iPhone 16 Pro Max to show us that it is much thinner than Apple's terminal when unfolded, which is quite normal, but above all, it is about as thick as the iPhone when folded, which is already a more interesting performance.
The X Fold 5 will be the lightest foldable smartphone on the market, but not the thinnest
A previous leak indicated that the vivo X Fold 5 could be 9.33 mm thick. It would therefore not be as thin as direct competitors like the Honor Magic V5, but the proposition is still quite decent. The X Fold 5 would in any case be thinner than its predecessor, the X Fold 3.
The manufacturer also highlights the weight of its next mobile, promising that it will be the “lightest large-format foldable phone in the world”. We don't know its exact weight, but the X Fold 5 will be lighter than the X Fold 3, which already doesn't weigh much at 219 grams. Good news, thinness and lightness don't rhyme with small battery here since it should offer a capacity of 6,000 mAh. It would be compatible with 90W wired charging and 30W wireless charging.
For the rest of the spec sheet, we expect a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC, 16GB of RAM, 512GB of storage, an 8-inch internal screen, a 6.53-inch external screen and three 50MP photo sensors, including a telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom.
