Android 16 hasn't been rolled out in its final version yet, but Google is already working on improving it. For the past few weeks, users enrolled in the beta program on Pixel have been able to test Android 16 QPR1, a preview of the next update scheduled for September. This Pixel Feature Drop introduces the Material 3 Expressive design and thoroughly revamps the multitasking interface, quick settings, and notifications. But as is often the case with early releases, significant bugs were detected in the early days.

To address this, Google is rolling out Android 16 QPR1 Beta 1.1 today. This interim release doesn't bring any new features, but it aims to fix several annoying glitches noted by testers. The update is available on all compatible models, from the Pixel 6a to the Pixel 9 Pro Fold, as well as the Pixel Tablet. It retains the May 2025 security patch, as well as version 25.13.33 of Google Play Services, already present in the first beta.

The list of fixes is particularly extensive. It includes interface issues, such as navigation buttons that no longer responded in the app drawer, or the lock screen media player that did not correctly display progress. Other bugs affected system settings, such as a crash when opening the battery menu, a frozen screen in wallpaper effects, or a truncated date on the lock screen depending on the clock used. Google is also fixing a fingerprint recognition issue in some multi-user situations. More subtle, a bug prevented the date from being displayed on the home screen in some configurations. Graphical inconsistencies in dark mode have also been fixed, particularly in the photo picker. To install the update, simply go to Settings > System > Software Update on your device. Although it's a minor fix, this beta 1.1 is essential for testing Android 16 properly, before the more ambitious new features planned for future versions.
