Since the gradual disappearance of Google Assistant, some familiar features seemed to be lost. This was particularly the case with music recognition. Good news for Android smartphone users: Gemini can now identify a song, without launching an external application.
Gemini now recognizes music natively on Android
For a long time, asking Gemini "what is this song?" resulted in a less than helpful response as the assistant suggested you use another app, unlike Google Assistant, which listened and displayed the title directly.

But it seems that Gemini has finally learned from its illustrious ancestor (and apps like Shazam). Now, by asking this question, the assistant starts listening directly in its interface. If the music is identified, the title is instantly displayed in Gemini, with the option to open the song in Google Search.
A return to a familiar experience
For users who had become accustomed to using Google Assistant or Shazam to find a song they heard on the fly, this "new feature" of Gemini is welcome. The integration remains exclusive to Android for now. On iOS, the same request still doesn't trigger direct recognition in Gemini, and no listening interface opens.
For Pixel smartphone users, Google also offers the "Now Playing" feature that allows you to identify songs playing nearby and display them on your lock screen without you having to do anything, except activate the option once in the settings.
