From its first presentation, Atomic Heart impressed with its completely crazy universe, its stunning artistic direction, and its gameplay pleasantly reminiscent of BioShock. Two years later, its Russian studio Mundfish is back with another layer at Summer Game Fest 2025, with an explosive trailer for something we didn't think would happen so quickly.
Atomic Heart is back with another layer, and it promises to be even crazier
Released in the midst of sad events in the real world, Atomic Heart had nevertheless made a strong impression thanks to its rather unique atmosphere and an artistic direction as crazy as it was grandiloquent. The gameplay, although ultimately relatively basic, was not left out, thanks to a small touch of BioShock that was very effective. While we thought it would sooner or later get a DLC, Mundfish showed up at Summer Game Fest 2025 with a completely different announcement.
Instead of an expansion, it was straight up Atomic Heart 2 that presented itself to us, and it doesn't seem to have usurped the addition of two. This sequel indeed seems even grander and crazier, notably sending us into space, and adding a plethora of new mechanics. In addition to inspiration from BioShock, we have obvious inspirations from Just Cause, with a grappling hook, parachute travel, and vehicle chases. We also find an improbable inspiration from... The Cube.
At all levels, Atomic Heart 2 seems to want to show us even more. Unfortunately, we don't have a release date for the next Mundfish title yet. At most, we know that it will be coming to PC and consoles. So, check back at a later date to find out more.
