Avatar: Fire and Ash will be the big hit of this end of the cinematic year. Expected to be released in French theaters on December 17, James Cameron's blockbuster is expected to once again create a stir. Recently, Empire was able to speak with some of the film's cast. The media then discussed how Jake's family will react to Neteyam's death.
Avatar 3: A Long Wait
In 2022, James Cameron brings his fans back to the world of Pandora through a sequel that has been eagerly awaited since it comes out more than ten years after the original film. For the occasion, Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana and Stephen Lang are all back in Avatar: The Way of Water. Unsurprisingly, this second installment was a global success with more than $2.3 billion in box office revenue. The feature film even won the Oscar for Best Visual Effects out of its 4 nominations.
Avatar: The Way of Water also shocked viewers with its narrative courage. At the end of the film, James Cameron doesn't hesitate to kill Neteyam, one of the children of Jake and Ney'tiri. Indeed, this second installment introduces the children of the franchise's flagship couple: Tuktirey, Lo'ak, Kiri, and Neteyam. Except that the dramatic ending of The Way of Water condemns Neteyam, after a thrilling final sequence.
The reaction to Neteyam's death
The death of Neteyam will obviously have serious repercussions on Avatar: Fire and Ash. We will discover how Jake's family will recover from such a trauma in a particularly violent war context. Recently, the American media Empire managed to speak with Britain Dalton, Trinity Bliss, Jack Champion, and Bailey Bass, who play Lo’ak, Tuktirey, Spider, and Tsireya respectively. A young cast who reacted to Neteyam’s death at the end of Avatar 2:
Lo’ak was born to be a leader. But he was never given the necessary confidence. When Neteyam dies... all eyes turn to him. He blames himself.
Trinity Bliss discussed the rest of young Tuk's story:
I don't think she'll be the same. This is the first time she's faced the death of a loved one in her life. But she will always remain as powerful, and perhaps she will rise in the ranks of the Sully family.
Things will be even more disordered for Spider, the biological son of Quaritch, the big bad of the RDA, caught between his adopted Na'vi family and his origins. Jack Champion also teases the continuation of his character's story within the franchise:
He feels very conflicted. His "father" is reborn in this Na'vi form. But he is still just as evil, if not more so. But he feels he can still save him. His guilt increases, and Spider tries to understand who he is, which side he belongs to.
As for Bailey Bass, she also focused on the bond that unites Tsireya and the rest of the family:
Tsireya is torn between what she considers to be right and what she has been taught all her life.
Inevitably, the disappearance of Neteyam will have serious consequences for the balance of the Sully family. It remains to be seen how Jake and Ney'tiri will react to this tragedy, how they will manage their grief and their thirst for revenge.
