Berlin Season 2: Netflix Confirms the Return of an Iconic Character

While Netflix keeps many secrets regarding its most anticipated series, the platform doesn't hold back from revealing important details here and there. The goal: to create impatience among viewers who are inundated with content every week. This Tuesday, June 17, on social media, the red N confirmed the return of a character that viewers hadn't seen since 2021 in the final season of La Casa de Papel. Ahead of the release of Berlin season 2 on Netflix, the spin-off dedicated to the character played by Pedro Alonso, the platform announced that it has recruited Álvaro Morte. The Spanish actor will reprise the role that made him famous, reuniting with "El Professor" or Sergio Marquina to his friends. His appearance in the spin-off series of "La Casa de Papel" is not surprising, given the ties that unite the two protagonists. Indeed, the finale of season 1 of "La Casa de Papel" taught viewers that the two men were actually brothers, engaged in organized crime to survive. The series also touched on the journey of their father, who was killed by the police during a robbery he was organizing. We can hope that these new episodes will deepen their brotherly dynamics as much as the importance of this legacy. The finale of season 1 hinted at this, with the brief appearance of Álvaro Morte. The series will have the opportunity to continue its momentum. Note that the term “special appearance” suggests that this will not be a major role but rather a meeting for the needs of a scene or an episode.

A highly anticipated season 2

Berlin was a nice heist on Netflix. In just three days, the series had accumulated 74 million hours viewed worldwide. It must be said that La Casa de Papel is one of the most viewed productions in the history of the red N. While the Korean remake did not find its audience, the imagination of Álex Pina continues to fascinate on the international scene. This success obviously motivated the development of a sequel. However, the critical reception was not as enthusiastic. In France, as in the rest of the world, the series was largely ignored by the press and some viewers. On Rotten Tomatoes, for example, Berlin only had 63% (press) and 61% (public) positive reviews, compared to 94% and 81% for its predecessor.

The return date of Berlin remains a mystery for now. We can still imagine that with filming in 2025 and a first season broadcast in 2023, 2026 will be the preferred period for the red N. The platform's calendar is rather busy, with the return of One Piece, The Witcher and Bridgerton.
