Unlike other years, the new Call of Duty will have been delayed until the end before being presented during this period of the Summer Game Fest 2025. A few rumors here and there had partially put us on the trail, but visibly, the acquisition of Activision by Microsoft has somewhat changed the communication around the franchise. Call of Duty Black Ops 7 was one of the big announcements of the Xbox Showcase this month of June 2025.
The next Call of Duty shows up and it's coming big
The new installment of the most famous FPS franchise was present this evening during the big Xbox conference with a most unexpected presentation (at first). Call of Duty Black Ops 7 intends to dazzle us once again, after a rather successful and well-received COD Black Ops 6 at its launch, before transforming into an ultra-violent Rio carnival a few months later, like all the games before it.
We knew perfectly well that the next game in the franchise would be revealed sooner or later, the rumors were right about the futuristic era and a new Black Ops. However, for a first presentation, we are very surprised. Impossible to know that it is a Call of Duty at first glance, since the trailer begins in a futuristic universe before descending into horror with a dark and anxiety-inducing universe. It is finally only when the face of Menendez appears, the famous villain of the saga, that we will make the connection. We then quickly discover what this new Call of Duty will be made of with its zombie mode, a glimpse of several gunfights and of course allusions to Battle Royale. Regarding the plot, we only know that the game will take place in 2035, between Black Ops 2 and Black Ops 3 (we're deliberately forgetting Black Ops 4, which has no narrative).
Could Black Ops 7 surprise us with its fantastical dimension? Like the few acid trips in Black Ops 6 or even Cold War? It's quite possible, but we'll have to wait to find out for sure. Strangely enough, Call of Duty Black Ops 7 still doesn't have a release date, not a window, or even a platform to mention during this presentation. To be continued.
