A few hours ago, at the finale of the Xbox Games Showcase organized as part of Summer Game Fest 2025, Microsoft and Activision unveiled the new installment in the Call of Duty saga. As rumors strongly suggested, the next "Call of" will be Black Ops 7 and will take place in 2035. It should be the direct sequel to Call of Duty Black Ops II released in 2012 on PS3, Xbox 360 and PC.
Call of Duty Black Ops 7: heading for the future
It was via a rather mysterious teaser, which clearly did not make us think of Call of Duty during its first seconds, that Microsoft and Activision lifted the veil on Call of Duty Black Ops 7, with actor Milo Ventimiglia in the lead role. A very good choice, allowing us to have an actor who has distinguished himself in several series such as Gilmore Girls, Heroes but also, and above all, in the role of Jack Pearson in the series This Is Us.
The game will propel us to 2035, in the shoes of David Mason who leads the Black Ops team against a manipulative enemy who uses fear above all else.
Chronology of the Black Ops series:
- 1942-1945: World at War
- 1968: Black Ops
- 1981: Black Ops Cold War
- 1982: Black Ops Declassified
- 1983: Cold War Seasons
- 1986: Black Ops II (Flashback)
- 1991: Black Ops 6
- 1991 – 1992: BO6 Seasons
- 2025: Black Ops II
- 2035: Black Ops 7
- 2040: Black Ops 4
- 2065: Black Ops III
For now, we'll have to make do with this. Activision and Microsoft confirm that a more detailed presentation is already planned for this summer, probably at Gamescom. Call of Duty Black Ops 7 is expected this fall, probably in November on PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC, but also on PS4 and Xbox One, as rumors confirmed a few weeks ago. It should be the last Call of Duty to be released on older consoles.
Many rumors also suggest that a release on Nintendo Switch2 is planned for Black Ops 7. To be continued, we should know very soon.
