In 2019, Bandai Namco released a new take on the Souls-like genre with Code Vein. It featured anime-style art direction, a strong, but not particularly striking, narrative, and a definite level of difficulty. With its interesting, post-apocalyptic universe tinged with horror, the game was a nice little success despite its obvious flaws. To everyone's surprise, Bandai came to Summer Game Fest 2025 with an announcement that will please fans of the franchise: a Code Vein 2.
Code Vein 2, Bandai Namco's surprise announcement at Summer Game Fest 2025
While Elden Ring is still firmly anchored in the minds of gamers, especially with its recent spin-off NightReign, Bandai Namco has unveiled Code Vein 2. The publisher is determined to try its luck again and perhaps make an indelible place for itself in the genre this time. At first glance, the game takes what made the first installment a success, especially in its visual aspect. We find the very manga-like artistic style of the first opus, which however seems to have gained some maturity this time.
Against all expectations, the game promises to be very different from the previous episode. We once again find the physical transformations, as anchored in the lore as in the gameplay, but the artistic direction seems to have completely changed. We are no longer really on pure cel shading, but rather on a mix between animated and realistic graphics. In any case, it once again seems very dynamic and demanding, giving pride of place to frantic boss fights.
The game unfortunately hasn't said anything more except that it will be available in 2026 on PS5, Xbox Series and PC.
