DOOM The Dark Ages gets its first update, what's new?

Released on May 15, 2025 on PC, PS5, Xbox Series, and Game Pass, DOOM The Dark Ages has wisely bided its time before receiving its very first official update. This update notably brings some welcome adjustments to certain elements that somewhat marred an otherwise exhilarating experience at the helm of the Slayer. Here are the notes for the aptly named Update 1 in more detail.

First update of the Slayer's toys in DOOM The Dark Ages

Despite its medieval dark fantasy atmosphere and more down-to-earth and in-your-face gameplay, DOOM The Dark Ages has not fallen behind the excellent 2016 reboot and Eternal. However, a few small pitfalls could somewhat mar the experience of massacring demons, such as the mecha phases, and especially the dragon phases, among other small drawbacks.

It is precisely on these points that the first update of the game smooths things out. We will note in particular adjustments to smooth out the sequences in mecha and dragon, to make them more dynamic and engaging. Small welcome additions for the two big new features of DOOM The Dark Ages, but unfortunately the least interesting at the game's release. Similarly, the Slayer receives some fixes to make the passages to its controls more pleasant, with in particular more enemies in each chapter of the campaign. Finally, we will appreciate adjustments to the audio, to ensure that the mix between sound effects and music is more balanced by default.

Finally, an update inevitably means bug fixes galore. This applies to cinematics, gameplay, the interface, and even to improve performance and minimize the possibility of unexpected crashes.
