Since 2013, Fairphone has been trying to carve out a place for itself in the smartphone market by focusing on ethics: a more environmentally and worker-friendly supply chain, increased durability, and advanced repairability. This philosophy is at odds with the sector's frenetic pace of renewal, and logically translates into a much slower release rate.
Thus, the Fairphone 5 dates back to 2023. It notably marked the arrival of an OLED panel in the range. In 2025, the Dutch brand is preparing to unveil a new iteration, logically named Fairphone 6. The official announcement is scheduled for June 25. But leaks mean we don't have to wait until then. After sharing a first visual last week (below), the German site WinFuture has done it again. This time, with technical indiscretions.
A modest but modern Snapdragon
The Fairphone 6 would feature a Qualcomm Snapdragon 7s Gen 3, accompanied by 8 GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. This processor, launched in the summer of 2024, hasn't made headlines or big benchmarks. It targets entry-level to mid-range smartphones. It still has some modern assets, such as an upgraded Hexagon NPU for AI processing. In terms of raw performance, however, we shouldn't expect a spectacular leap over the Fairphone 5's Qualcomm QCM 6490 based on the few benchmarks we've seen. Note that the 8/256 GB combo was also offered on the latter, in addition to a 6/128 GB variant added later.
The battery would display 4415 mAh and would accept USB-PD fast charging at 33 W, a slight increase compared to the 4200 mAh and 30 W of the previous model.
On the photo side, the main module would rely on a 50 MP sensor with an aperture f / 1.56. A 13 MP ultra-wide angle and a 32 MP selfie camera would also be part of the game.
The screen would be a 6.31-inch P-OLED LTPO panel, with a definition of 1116 x 2484 pixels, a dynamic refresh rate of 1–120 Hz and a Gorilla Glass 7i coating. For comparison, the Fairphone 5 has a 6.46-inch OLED screen with a resolution of 1224 x 2700 pixels, but limited to 90 Hz.
Launch on June 25, at 549 euros?
Also according to WinFuture, the Fairphone 6, running Android 15, will be released at a price of 549 euros. A lower price than that of the Fairphone 5 at its launch, since the bill was 699 euros (579 euros currently for 8/256 GB, 499 euros for 6/128 GB).
It remains to be seen whether the proposition will be attractive. Last year, Fairphone CEO Reinier Hendriks spoke of the need to make the company more competitive, notably by lowering prices. It must be said that until now, the brand has rarely exceeded 100,000 units sold per year, while a giant like Samsung sells more than 200 million units over such a period. Of course, the firepower is not the same. And the giants of the sector have not made sobriety their credo either; they are just there to sell, massively.
