A rendering of the back of the Nothing Phone 3 has just surfaced online. And the latter is rather bad news for fans of the brand who remained loyal to these smartphone models because of this astonishing lighting system called “Glyph”.

The rendering of the Nothing Phone 3 that has just surfaced on 𝕏 confirms news that may displease many people. As you can see, the brand's upcoming phones are losing the Glyph, this alternative visual element that helped reduce hyper-dependence on traditional notifications.

The word refers to the set of LED strips housed under the transparent shell on the back of the brand's phones. Connected to sound and the haptic motor, they offer a luminous (and silent) communication channel parallel to the screen: calls, notifications, charging status, etc. Nothing previously described it as "a new way to interact" with your smartphone.

The disappearance of the Glyph on the back of Nothing Phones can probably be explained by excessive manufacturing costs.

It is at least one of the most differentiating elements of this brand's devices compared to other smartphones on the market. Initially, Nothing seemed very invested in this original element. Increasing the number of addressable zones from 12 on the Nothing Phone 1 to 33 on the second generation.

But we had already noticed that the company was already offering fewer LEDs on the Phone 2a. And this was clearly a sign that the Glyph was going to bow out – as we can see with this rendering. Moreover, the smartphone should keep a unique, transparent look, a small and appreciable consolation (which we hope will remain!).

The official reasons for this absence are obviously not known at this stage. We can only imagine that the element very specific to Nothing involved excessive manufacturing costs. Nothing should in any case say more when the device launches on July 1st. We expect a price point leaning more towards the premium with a price tag of £/$/€800. Let's hope the brand keeps some surprises to make this change of direction easier to accept!
