It's announcement time for Square Enix's cult saga. After the release date of Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles, the Japanese publisher gave Xbox Series players two very nice surprises with the official announcement of FF7 Remake and FF16 on both consoles. But the biggest surprise was undoubtedly the immediate availability, following the announcement, of the latest numbered game on Microsoft's machines.
A new Final Fantasy port for the Nintendo Switch 2?
The Nintendo Switch 2 is currently swamped with ports and it's not about to stop anytime soon. What if one of the biggest Final Fantasy games ended up landing on the console? It's almost certain! Indeed, during a livestream "FFXIV Letter from the Producer", producer Naoki Yoshida discussed various topics, including the recent port of Final Fantasy 16 to Xbox Series, which is a cold shower for several reasons. But that shouldn't stop the team from bringing the game to the Big N's latest machine.
Yoshida-san said "that only Nintendo was left", while creative director Kazutoyo Maehiro replied "that he would do his best". Final Fantasy 16 on Nintendo Switch 2, so it seems like only a matter of time, since the door is clearly open on Naoki Yoshida's side and the port may even already be underway. However, there's no point hoping for a release window or anything. Some studios certainly had late access to Nintendo Switch 2 development kits, hence sometimes the absence of confirmations of game editions for the console during the Summer Game Fest 2025.
While Final Fantasy 16 should indeed arrive on Nintendo Switch 2, we remind you that the arrival of the remake trilogy, including FF7 Remake and FF7 Rebirth, has already been official. In the meantime, if you want another RPG, don't forget that Square Enix took advantage of the launch of the new Big N machine to release its Bravely Default Flying Fairy HD Remaster.
