Final Fantasy: Two huge surprises announced for Xbox players

Square Enix definitely gave Final Fantasy fans a treat during this Summer Game Fest. Okay, we still haven't seen that damn FF9 Remake that's been the talk of the town for years, but the Japanese publisher has nevertheless revealed another long-awaited project: Final Fantasy Tactics Remastered. And that's not the only announcement that's been years in the making. No, the legendary franchise still had a few revelations that it kept warm at the Xbox Showcase.

Final Fantasy is coming to Xbox in force

That's it. After months of all kinds of rumors, Xbox and Square Enix are strengthening their partnership even further. A significant first announcement had already been made with the arrival of FF14 on Microsoft consoles in July 2023. At that time, the president of the Japanese group confirmed that several of their productions would arrive on Xbox platforms when possible, meaning when there would be no exclusivity contracts to hinder their release on other platforms. So, it's been over a year and a half since we've been hearing talk of a Final Fantasy 16 port to Xbox Series, the same story for FF7 Remake and its sequel. All have since been released on PC, but players of the green brand were still left in the lurch, patiently waiting their turn. Guess what? We had to wait until this Xbox Showcase 2025.

This time it's for real. FF7 Remake will therefore arrive on Xbox Series in its Intergrade edition, which, let's remember, contains the DLC focused on Yuffie. No word on Rebirth, but the first game in the trilogy will be available this winter on Xbox Series, Xbox PC, and Cloud.

And as one surprise never comes alone, Final Fantasy 16 will also set the brand's consoles ablaze. We didn't see it coming, but it's available now.
