Galaxy Smartphones: Samsung asks its users to activate these new security features

Faced with the upsurge in phone thefts, Samsung is alerting Galaxy smartphone users in the United Kingdom. In conjunction with the British Home Office, the South Korean brand is highlighting a set of new features to secure their devices. These measures, integrated into the One UI 7.0 update, aim to make life more difficult for thieves... and to reassure users.

New weapons against Samsung Galaxy smartphone theft

With One UI 7, Samsung is strengthening the security of its devices by adding several features, some of which work even without an internet connection. This is the case with the offline lock, which blocks the phone if it remains offline for too long. Remote locking allows you to regain control of your mobile using your number and a quick check, even after it has been stolen.

Another new feature: AI theft detection. The system recognizes sudden movements that could signal a snatching and immediately locks the screen. At the same time, biometric verification becomes necessary for any changes to sensitive settings if the device is used in an unusual location. Finally, a one-hour security delay is imposed when a biometric reset is attempted, giving the user time to lock their device remotely.

A large-scale campaign to raise user awareness

These features are available on a wide selection of recent models, provided they have received the One UI 7.0 update. This is particularly the case for the Galaxy S22 to S25 series, Z Flip 5 and 6, Z Fold 5 and 6, among others. It is possible to activate these protections in: "Settings > Security and privacy > Lost device protection".

Samsung is rolling out a large-scale awareness campaign. Supported by the British Home Office, the Korean brand will send a security alert to more than 40 million Galaxy users in the United Kingdom. This is accompanied by a poster campaign in Piccadilly Circus and train stations, as well as videos distributed online.
