Gmail: ChatGPT will soon “analyze your emails”

OpenAI is about to announce a new flagship feature for ChatGPT. As researcher Tibor Blaho noted, the startup plans to allow generative AI to connect to Gmail and Google Calendar. On his X account, he explains that he discovered a window about the functionality in the ChatGPT web application interface.

Note that ChatGPT has been already able to connect to Gmail for a few weeks. However, this function is limited to extracting data from emails. Once the services are connected, ChatGPT can access the user's documents. It is then capable of performing advanced searches. This advanced function allows the AI to find more detailed information, whether online or in the files provided, in order to develop more precise and relevant responses. It is not possible to extract emails to summarize or rework them.

ChatGPT on Gmail and Google Calendar: what does it change?

The new feature highlighted by Tibor Blaho is different. With this one, ChatGPT will be able to "analyze your emails" through Gmail. As Bleeping Computer, which relayed the discovery, explains, it will be possible to ask ChatGPT to write tailored replies to your emails, convert a message into a story, or generate a schedule directly from the content of an email. In short, you will be able to use AI as a true communications management assistant.

Connected to Google Calendar, ChatGPT will also be able to "manage your schedule", which will allow you "to stay organized." In other words, you could give the chatbot access to your daily schedule. You could ask it "What's my schedule today?" to get a list of your events planned throughout the day. We imagine that ChatGPT could also automatically adjust your schedule based on your availability, suggest slots to schedule a meeting, or detect potential calendar conflicts or busy time slots.

According to Tibor Blaho, this functionality is linked to ChatGPT's search function, which allows the AI to search for information in real time on the Internet. OpenAI may announce the feature in the near future, or even within the next few days, according to Bleeping Computer. We'll know more about the features, how it works, and its limitations at that time. Expect the integration to be available to ChatGPT Plus subscribers initially.
