God of War is a discreet franchise that, nevertheless, generates a lot of talk. Fans, eager to see Kratos again, have unfortunately just learned some bad news about the next game.
God of War: Kratos Plays the Ghost
Fans of God of War were surprised to see the announcement of a DLC for Ragnarök during The Game Awards 2023. Santa Monica Studio gave players a very nice gift, but they had no idea it would be the last for a long time. Ghost of Sparta, Kratos has become a real spirit that some insiders are trying to summon through various rumors.
While Sony has still not made an official announcement regarding a new God of War game, even though this year marks the 20th anniversary of the franchise, rumors are rife. There was talk of an opus in Egypt, but this idea quickly gave way to a completely different type of game. While many expected a remaster of the first games, Kratos will indeed return to Greece, but in a new title in the form of a Metroidvania. Less ambitious than hoped, this game remains highly anticipated by fans. However, some bad news about it was recently announced.
You'll have to wait to play the next God of War
Since the revival of God of War in 2018, the franchise has become extremely popular, so much so that even a 2.5D game remains highly anticipated. However, insider Jeff Grubb has put everyone off by informing us that the spin-off has been pushed back to 2026. Worse still, a trailer planned for the last State of Play was removed from the schedule because of this delay.
Despite this bad news, we can still hope to discover this new game at a future PlayStation Showcase or during The Game Awards. That said, we remain very curious to see this new God of War. Even if some might be disappointed, it must be remembered that the license has often been able to renew its formula. From beat'em up to adventure game, God of War even went multiplayer with Ascension and 2D with Betrayal. This 2.5D installment will once again take the franchise in a different direction, and we can't wait to see it (and see Deimos again, too).
