What if one of the surprises at the next State of Play was the new God of War? That's what's being said anyway, and the most reputable insiders in the industry have all gotten involved this time. Even if we'll have to be careful since nothing is official, it's hard not to see a leak before the big reveal, as the informants are generally known for their good information.
The next God of War game is being talked about again, but it's likely to divide people
A new God of War is indeed in the works, according to Tom Henderson and Jeff Grubb, who also confirmed the information by responding on social media. While this new leak of information is rather good news in itself, what should calm the ardor of many fans is that it would not be exactly what everyone expected. The new game in the series would be significantly smaller than traditional AAA games. Henderson claims that it would be a sort of 2.5D metroidvania, or something like that. A much more modest game, therefore, and which might not please everyone. For the moment, reactions here and there are rather mixed. Some are rather happy with the news while others prefer to just wait for the next big game.
A more modest game while waiting for the big one?
This God of War project, however, remains a big question mark since we know nothing else about it. It should clearly serve as a buffer between Ragnarok and the next big game in the franchise. Kratos clearly hasn't finished smashing the god, and Santa Monica should be hard at work. We know that the studio has several projects, like many of its colleagues, but it's clearly the next God of War that's attracting all the attention. There was also rumors about the potential return of the original trilogy in the form of remasters for the PS5 or a remake of the first episode.
Here again, there are a lot of rumors, but unfortunately nothing official. What seems to be confirmed, however, is the return of the God of War in great shape, or at least, of the license. After all, the franchise could try to go completely elsewhere for this new iteration, even if ousting Kratos for good seems impossible. See you at the State of Play on June 4 at 11 p.m. to see if we'll have any news. Fingers crossed.
