After integrating natural language query search with Gemini, Google Photos is further improving its search engine. The application now offers the ability to target specific text present in your photos, such as in a screenshot or a scanned document. A useful new feature for those who are overwhelmed with photos.
More precise search thanks to quotation marks on Google Photos
The new feature is the addition of a more precise text search parameter: quotation marks. By entering a word or phrase between quotation marks in the search bar, Google Photos only displays results containing this exact text, whether it appears in a file, a caption, or text embedded in the image. This includes, for example, screenshots, documents, signs, or any other textual element visible in a photo.

Without quotation marks, Google Photos continues to offer broader results, including approximate or visual matches. But with quotation marks, the app is much more effective at finding specific content in a huge photo library.
A feature already available on all devices
This capability is in addition to the search powered by Gemini, which already allowed you to describe a scene or mention people to find an image. Now, you can also filter by exact text, which considerably enriches the sorting options. Whether you use the app on Android, iOS, or the Google Photos website, this update is already active.
As you can see above, the quotation mark search is very relevant for those who store documents or visual information in their gallery, but who until now had the greatest difficulty finding them. This is no longer the case.
