Half-Life 3: Is the long-awaited announcement imminent? It seems to be getting closer

As Summer Game Fest 2025 officially kicks off this evening of June 6, 2025, the wait for an announcement of the famous Half-Life 3 is becoming more and more insistent. Players and insiders alike are making their own predictions to determine whether it will indeed take place during the new summer gaming festival. According to several recent signs, an answer is starting to emerge before the big day.

Half-Life 3 finally soon ready to be revealed to the world?

For several months, we have known that a game related to Valve's iconic FPS franchise is in full development within Gabe Newell's company, and even in the intensive playtesting phase, under the code name HLX. Many reports tend to indicate that this might finally be the famous Half-Life 3 that we've been waiting for for two decades, including some details about the story it will tell. As Summer Game Fest approaches, fans are on edge, praying that Gordon Freeman will finally show up.

Speaking of Gabe Newell, a discovery by many fans has ignited the powder keg regarding an imminent announcement. A few hours ago, we learned that the Valve boss's yacht had been spotted in California, the US state where the ceremony is taking place. The mad scientists of Black Mesa could therefore well make a stop at Geoff Keighley's festival to finally make the long-awaited Half-Life 3 official.

On the insider side, this time it's the generally well-informed NateTheHate who is contributing his stone. In a recent podcast related to the Xbox Showcase, he had this to say on the subject: "I also think Half-Life 3 exists and will be announced. Will it happen this week? I don't really know." It's worth noting, however, that Geoff Keighley has a notoriously good relationship with Valve. So, the announcement of Half-Life 3, or at least a new installment in the legendary franchise, as the final announcement of the Summer Game Fest opening ceremony isn't entirely out of the question. Anyway, tune in tomorrow night to find out for sure, and pray that the Freeman comes along and saves us all with a crowbar.
