Google is preparing a discreet but powerful change for its next smartphone. The goal remains the same: to offer some of the best photos on the market. This time, the new feature is an unexpected, but very useful, everyday photo mode.
Photography has become a central criterion on smartphones. While sensors are evolving slowly, it's on the software side that brands are innovating. Image processing, artificial intelligence, stabilization, everything is designed to improve quality effortlessly. Google has long relied on these technologies with its Pixel range. And with the Pixel 10, a new function could enrich this approach.
According to several leaks relayed by Android Headlines, the Pixel 10 should offer tele-macro photography. This technology consists of using the telephoto lens sensor to take very close-up photos, where most smartphones use an ultra-wide-angle lens. This choice would allow Google to offer sharper and better-lit shots. Brands like OPPO with the Find N5 or OnePlus with the OnePlus 13 have already experimented with this approach, but it is still not very widespread in the Android world.
The Pixel 10 would use the zoom to take more detailed macro photos
The interest for the user is immediate. Thanks to the 5x optical zoom, the Pixel 10 will be able to capture fine details from a distance. This avoids having to stick the device to the subject, which limits shadows and improves lighting. This is particularly useful for photographing flowers, jewelry, food, or insects. In addition, the telephoto lens is often of better optical quality than the ultra-wide-angle sensor, which allows for a more detailed and better defined image.
Google would also keep the classic macro via the ultra-wide-angle lens. The smartphone will automatically switch to the most suitable sensor depending on the distance to the subject, making it easier to use for everyone. This dual approach combines image quality and simplicity. The Pixel 10 is expected to be unveiled on August 20, with a release date of August 28. Four models are expected, with new colors like Limoncello, Ultra Blue, and Smoky Green. With this discreet but practical innovation, the manufacturer intends to maintain its lead in the field of mobile photography, facing Samsung and Apple.
