Hitway BK9S Review: The Full Suspension E-Bike That Bluffed Us!

Hitway BK9S Review: The Full Suspension E-Bike That Bluffed Us!

Among the many names circulating, Hitway doesn't necessarily stand out as a benchmark... and yet, the brand is starting to make a name for itself, particularly via platforms like Amazon and Cdiscount. Positioned more in the entry-level and mid-range segments, it offers electric bikes that are both affordable and relatively well-equipped. It was in this context that we got our hands on the Hitway BK9S, a full-suspension e-bike with a muscular look, offered at an aggressive price.

On paper, the BK9S ticks many boxes: a suspension frame, wide fatbike-style tires, a 250W motor, a claimed range of up to 150 km, a bright LCD display, disc brakes, and a semi-integrated battery. Enough to arouse curiosity, but also raise some doubts about the real quality of the whole thing, especially at this price.

With a share of skepticism, but also real curiosity, we took the handlebars of this Hitway BK9S for a complete test, both in the city and outside. And the least we can say is that the bike pleasantly surprised us. Powerful despite its limited engine, comfortable thanks to its dual suspension, and very well finished for its price, the BK9S proved to be much more convincing than its price would have suggested.

If you're looking for a full-suspension e-bike without blowing your budget, hang on tight: you might be surprised.

The Hitway BK9S is available at the current price of 1199 euros (instead of 1699 euros).

Unpacking and assembly

The Hitway BK9S is delivered in a relatively Imposing, but well protected. As is often the case with this type of direct-shipping product, the bike arrives partially assembled: there are only a handful of components left to install yourself to make it operational. First pleasant surprise: all the necessary tools are provided, and the instructions are translated into French, which remains rare enough in this price range to be highlighted.

Contents of the box:

  • The main bike, with frame, rear wheel, motor and transmission already mounted
  • Front wheel (to be attached manually)
  • Separate handlebars and stem
  • Screw-on pedals
  • Saddle and seat post
  • Mains charger
  • Multilingual user manual
  • Tools (Allen key, open-end wrench, screwdriver)
  • LCD screen pre-installed on the handlebar
  • Kickstand, mudguards and front light
  • Combination lock

Assembly steps

Complete assembly takes between 30 and 45 minutes, even for a non-DIYer. The recommended order is as follows:

  • Front wheel attachment: the axle locks easily with a quick release, no need to force it.
  • Handlebar assembly: the stem positioning requires a little attention to ensure everything is straight. Simply turn and tighten it.
  • Pedal installation: be careful of the reversed thread on the left pedal (as on all bikes).
  • Basic adjustments: saddle height, handlebar orientation, brake tension if necessary.
  • Accessory installation: LED front light, plastic mudguard (screw-on). I didn't install the lock, but it attaches easily under the saddle.

First impressions

Once assembled, the bike gives a robust impression, especially the frame. The matte paint is neat, and the angular design gives a modern, almost feline style, which I love. Used to folding fatbikes with solid frames, I found this model visually cleaner and better balanced. The integration of the battery into the down tube is very clean, much more successful than on some competitors in the same price range. The only downside: the mudguards, a little flexible and less flattering. They could vibrate at high speeds or on rough terrain.

Note:

  • The LCD screen is pre-installed and works as soon as the battery is switched on.
  • The battery is lockable with a key, and removable for charging.
  • The cables are well guided along the frame: visible, but protected.

In summary, unboxing and assembling the Hitway BK9S went without any unpleasant surprises, with a perceived quality that is generally higher than what we expected for this price point. For a bike purchased online, this is a great introduction.

Design and finishes (continued)

Perceived quality of materials

The frame immediately inspires confidence: no play, no unwanted flex. It is rigid without compromising comfort.
The standard saddle, wide and well-padded, proves sufficient for daily commuting or leisure rides, including on rougher paths.
The handlebar grips are pleasant, comfortable, and offer a good grip, even with sweaty hands. The integrated wrist rests add a real plus to the overall comfort.
The aluminum crankset is solid, while the non-slip steel pedals reassure us of their durability.

Finishings could be improved

Some details still betray the bike's price positioning. The plastic mudguards, for example, lack rigidity. They can vibrate on rough roads and are not always perfectly aligned.
Another downside: the rear light is battery-operated. Understandable at this price, but a shame. A simple cable would have allowed both lights to be powered simultaneously via the central battery.

The Hitway BK9S strikes hard from the first glance. It displays real personality, successful integration of its battery, and attention to detail in the assembly. Despite a few low-end elements visible here and there, the overall impression remains very positive.

Ergonomics and handling

From the first turns of the wheel, the Hitway BK9S is powerful, welcoming, and intuitive. Despite its muscular and atypical appearance, it remains accessible to all types of cyclists, even beginners. The overall ergonomics have been designed for versatile use, between urban comfort and riding pleasure.

Riding position: perfect balance

The geometry of the frame places the cyclist in an intermediate position: neither too upright, like on a city bike, nor too leaning forward, like on a sport mountain bike. This maintains excellent visibility, while remaining comfortable enough to cover the miles.

The surprisingly comfortable saddle will suit most users without requiring replacement. The handlebar, slightly raised, falls naturally under the hands. Its width ensures good stability without hindering urban travel.

Accessible controls and easy-to-read screen

All the buttons (power, assistance adjustment, lighting, pedestrian mode) are grouped within reach of the left thumb. The ergonomics are simple, logical, and usable even with gloves.
The backlit LCD screen, placed in the center of the handlebar, remains readable in all circumstances. It clearly displays:

  • the current speed,
  • the assistance level,
  • the distance traveled,
  • the battery status.

Small regret: the speedometer locks at 25 km/h, without displaying the actual speed beyond that. This limitation can frustrate some users who want to know their precise pace once the legal limit is reached.

Responsiveness of the electric assistance

The BK9S offers three levels of electric assistance, accessible via the “+” and “–” buttons. From the first level, the motor reacts efficiently and supports effortlessly. The levels are well marked, allowing you to climb to 15, 20 and then 25 km/h without forcing yourself. Pedestrian mode, on the other hand, is activated by a long press on the “–” button: the bike then moves forward at 6 km/h, useful for walking alongside without struggling, especially when going uphill.

Ultra-responsive pedal sensor

This is one of the nice surprises of the BK9S: its pedal sensor is amazingly responsive. Less than half a turn of the crank is enough to engage the assistance. The response is immediate, fluid, and smooth. This natural behavior greatly contributes to the riding pleasure, especially in the city during frequent restarts.

Maneuverability when stationary

Weighing around 32 kg, the bike remains average for a full suspension bike. It may seem a little heavy without the assistance, but the pedestrian mode compensates effectively. The frame offers good grip for manual handling (garage, stairwell, sidewalks, etc.).

Road handling

It's once launched that the Hitway BK9S reveals its full personality. Despite a 250 W motor that complies with regulations, this e-bike surprises with the liveliness of its assistance and the riding comfort it offers. In the city as well as on mixed terrain, it is comfortable, stable, and frankly pleasant to ride.

In the city: stunning responsiveness and comfort

In urban environments, the BK9S makes a very good impression. Thanks to an ultra-responsive pedaling sensor, assistance is triggered from the first half pedal. The start is straightforward, perfect for merging into traffic or quickly setting off at a red light.
On rough roads, cobblestones, or speed bumps, the dual suspension plays a key role. It effectively absorbs road imperfections, providing real riding comfort. Vibrations are largely reduced, even at a brisk pace.

The dynamic handling is convincing: the bike responds well, acceleration is quick, the steering is precise, and the whole thing remains perfectly balanced. The wide handlebars contribute to this feeling of control, especially in tight turns or congested areas.

Off the beaten track: good grip, nice flexibility

On mixed or slightly uneven terrain, the BK9S confirms its versatility. Dirt roads, gravel, forest trails... it holds its course without flinching. The wide knobby tires provide good grip, even on wet ground.

The rear suspension, which is fairly supple, absorbs small bumps well. We're not talking about a downhill bike here, but it handles forest outings or stony trails without flinching. On more demanding terrain, the suspension reaches its limits, but without violent jolts.

Braking: mechanical but reassuring

The BK9S is equipped with mechanical disc brakes at the front and rear. On paper, it's not the best. In practice, they fulfill their mission. The bite is good, the power sufficient to stop sharply, including downhill or on wet ground. The 2.3 mm thickness of the discs partly compensates for the lack of a hydraulic system.

The only downside: the levers require a little more effort, which can be felt on long rides.

Stability, maneuverability and riding pleasure

The overall balance of this electric bike is excellent. The center of gravity is well placed, the geometry reassuring. You quickly feel confident, whether you're riding relaxed or playing with the curves.

Even when limited to 25 km/h, the motor provides a feeling of dynamism. It pushes efficiently up to the legal limit, before giving way to a slight resistance – a form of “engine braking” that is noticeable but not annoying once you get used to it.

Hitway BK9S Review: The Full Suspension E-Bike That Bluffed Us!

The Hitway BK9S is a fun, powerful, and ultra-comfortable all-terrain electric bike, suitable for everyday utility trips as well as more sporty rides. It’s not just an economical e-bike, it’s a bike that makes you want to get out and ride.

Autonomy and battery management

Autonomy remains one of the key criteria for e-bike users. Hitway advertises a range of 70 to 150 km for the BK9S, which may seem ambitious. But as is often the case, it all depends on the conditions: rider weight, type of terrain, selected assistance mode, tire pressure, weather, etc. Here's what we found in the field.

Well-integrated and easy-to-remove battery

The Hitway BK9S features a 48 V – 16 Ah lithium-ion battery, with a capacity of 768 Wh. A very respectable size in this price range.
Its integration into the frame's down tube is particularly neat. Visually, it blends in well with the design, while being perfectly protected from splashes and impacts.

The battery is lockable with a key and easily removable. It can therefore be recharged without having to move the entire bike, which is a real plus for urban users or those who leave their bike in the garage.

Real autonomy: between 45 and 70 km depending on use

In the field, our tests confirm a rather convincing real autonomy:

  • In high assistance mode (level 3/3), with a 72 kg cyclist on hilly roads, we reached around 45 km before the engine cuts out.
  • In intermediate mode on flat terrain, the range climbs to 60–65 km without difficulty.
  • On a mixed route (city, cycle path, trails), alternating the assistance levels, we exceeded 70 km in good weather conditions.

In normal use, we can therefore calmly expect 50 to 60 km, which is more than enough for everyday use. And by optimizing the settings, 70 km becomes realistic. The 150 km promise, on the other hand, only holds true in a very specific scenario: light cyclist, flat terrain, minimal assistance.

Charging time: within the norm

The supplied charger is a 56 V – 2 A model. It takes between 5 and 30 hours to fully charge, which is still typical.
An LED on the charger indicates the charging status (red in progress, green when the battery is full). The charging port is protected by a small rubber cap, easy to access on the right side of the frame.

Display and battery management: simple, but effective

The BK9S's LCD screen displays the battery level via five segments. It doesn't indicate the exact percentage or the remaining range in kilometers.
This system remains reliable for standard use, but it becomes inaccurate at the end of charging: the last two bars tend to drop quickly.

No instant consumption or intelligent tracking like on higher-end models, but you get used to it quickly. After a few rides, you learn to estimate your consumption based on the assistance mode and the route profile.

Hitway BK9S Review: The Full Suspension E-Bike That Bluffed Us!

The BK9S offers a decent range, in line with what you would expect from an e-bike in this price range. Its battery is well protected, easy to remove and recharge, and its behavior is consistent. Even if the display remains basic, it is sufficient for everyday use. No nasty surprises there.

Accessories and on-board equipment

A good e-bike isn't just about a motor and a battery: the overall equipment plays a central role in comfort, safety, and everyday practicality. In this respect, the Hitway BK9S does quite well, even if everything isn't perfect.

Front/rear lighting: a good base, but room for improvement

The bike is equipped with an LED front light, attached to the stem. It provides sufficient light for night rides in the city or on poorly lit roads, and is activated directly via the "+" button on the handlebar control.
On the other hand, the rear light is battery-powered. This is a real weak point, especially for regular or extended urban use. Aside from possibly forgetting to turn it off (at the risk of draining the battery), this means thinking about checking its operation... A simple cable would have been enough to connect the two lights to the central battery, which would have significantly improved the consistency of the lighting system.

Mudguards: effective but a little low-end

The BK9S comes with rigid plastic mudguards. They provide adequate protection from splashes, even on wet roads, but their finish remains average.
There are some vibrations at high speeds and a sometimes slightly loose assembly. These are typical elements of the entry-level range, and even if it does not harm the use, those who often ride in the rain will benefit from replacing them with more robust models.

Display, pedestrian mode and kickstand: functional for everyday use

The LCD screen is backlit, clearly visible even in direct sunlight. It displays all the essential information: speed, assistance level, distance traveled, battery status, and activation of pedestrian mode.
This pedestrian mode, in fact, is very useful. By holding down the “–” button, the motor moves the bike forward at around 6 km/h, which allows you to push it effortlessly up hills or on busy sidewalks.

The side stand is solid and well positioned. It allows you to park your bike without difficulty, even on slightly uneven ground.

What's missing...

Some features are missing, but not necessarily a deal-breaker. There's no mobile app, no Bluetooth connectivity. There's also no USB port or advanced on-screen features. But at this price, it's hard to ask for everything. And since the technical base is good, nothing prevents the user from adding their own accessories: smartphone holder, anti-theft device, additional lighting, etc.

Hitway BK9S Review: The Full Suspension E-Bike That Bluffed Us!

The Hitway BK9S offers a generally satisfactory level of equipment for its price. It covers essential needs with reliability, while leaving some room for improvement for those who wish to customize it. A few details like the battery-powered taillight hint at its entry-level/mid-range positioning, but overall, the experience remains coherent and functional.

Pros

The Hitway BK9S doesn't just look good: it ticks a lot of boxes, especially for a full-suspension e-bike offered at such a competitive price. Here are its main assets:

  • Dynamic electric assistance: despite a nominal power of 250 W, the motor delivers a frank and responsive assistance, with very good pedaling sensitivity.
  • Very comfortable double suspension: the front fork and the rear shock absorber effectively absorb irregularities, making journeys much more pleasant.
  • Successful and original design: its angular frame, its modern look and the successful integration of the battery give it a real personality.
  • Readable and well-placed LCD screen: all the essential information is visible at a glance, with an easily accessible pedestrian mode.
  • Removable and secure battery: it is quickly removed, recharges easily, and its autonomy is very good for this range.
  • Simple and quick assembly: the instructions in French and the tools provided allow for a hassle-free start-up.
  • Road approval: the bike complies with European regulations for e-bikes, which which allows legal use on public roads.
  • Excellent value for money: for a well-equipped full suspension, the BK9S remains one of the most competitive models of the moment.

Hitway BK9S Review: The Full Suspension E-Bike That Bluffed Us!

Negative points

Not everything is perfect, of course, and a few limitations remind us that we are here on an e-bike at a reasonable price:

  • Slightly fragile plastic mudguards: they fulfill their role, but lack rigidity and can vibrate on rough terrain.
  • Battery-powered rear light: a real weak point for urban use. You have to remember to activate it and monitor the battery status.
  • No handlebar accelerator: even if it is often absent on approved e-bikes, some users may regret it.
  • Speedometer limited to 25 km/h: it does not indicate the actual speed beyond that, which can frustrate the most curious cyclists.
  • Significant weight: at nearly 32 kg on the scale, it is not the most practical to carry or store in an apartment.
  • Mechanical brakes: they do the job, but hydraulic brakes would offer a better feel and increased progressiveness.

The Hitway BK9S is available at the current price of 1199 euros (instead of 1699 euros).
