“I’ll get you 4 out of 4”: Renault transforms the R4 into a high-tech emergency vehicle

Renault is resurrecting the legendary R4… but in a 2025 version and in a firefighter's outfit! The Vision 4Rescue concept, presented as a "demo-car," is based on the electric Renault 4 E-Tech, but has been thoroughly redesigned to meet the practical needs of emergency services. Designed in collaboration with several firefighter units and engineers from Software République (a collective of seven French companies, including Renault), this vehicle functions as a mobile, connected command center.

A rolling laboratory for emergency situations

At the rear, a sliding module allows for the installation of an office with two screens connected to a computer. In particular, it is possible to pilot an integrated drone, stored in a capsule on the roof. This nacelle also houses antennas intended to restore communications in disaster areas. Under the control station are two storage boxes containing essential equipment: helmets, intervention bags, walkie-talkies, and tablets. Everything is designed to always be charged and immediately available.

“I’ll get you 4 out of 4”: Renault transforms the R4 into a high-tech emergency vehicle

In total, nearly twenty interconnected solutions form a true security system, designed to accelerate and coordinate emergency interventions. The goal is to save time, improve visibility on the ground, and centralize technical resources.

Under its guise of a small, revisited vintage vehicle, Vision 4Rescue is a true modern-day 4x4. Compared to the classic electric Renault 4, its ground clearance has been increased by 15 mm, and it benefits from all-wheel drive thanks to a second motor placed on the rear axle. Enough to tackle rough terrain with ease.

The exterior design, meanwhile, leaves no doubt about its mission. The flame-red bodywork is crisscrossed with fluorescent yellow-green stripes, and the "Rescue" and "Sapeurs-Pompiers" markings are clearly visible on the sides. The emergency numbers 112 and 18 are displayed on the rear windows, while the roof capsule is bordered by a blue LED strip. Even the 3D-printed front and rear bumpers feature a "PinPon" motif in homage to the sound of sirens.

The attention to detail extends to the interior. The seats are covered in a fabric incorporating foam from recycled firefighter suits, already flame-retardant. On the dashboard, a polished metal bar engraved with "I'll get you 4 out of 4" serves as a handle... or as a holder for walkie-talkies. And to make nighttime operations or those in hostile environments safer, a reflective strip on the rear doors signals their opening.

With this concept, Renault is exploring what the emergency vehicle of the future could be: modular, ultra-connected, and designed with and for professionals in the field. The Vision 4Rescue is not just a simple style exercise: it is also a functional demonstration, designed to inspire future operational vehicles.
