iOS 26 will fix Messages' biggest problem

iOS 26 will fix Messages' biggest problem

With iOS 26, Apple is about to fix one of the most annoying behaviors of iOS since its inception. The Cupertino company is about to loosen up a bit on the rigidity of copy and paste in the Messages app.

A less rigid copy and paste in Messages

The iPhone hasn't always had a copy and paste function. It wasn't integrated into the iPhone until iPhone OS 3, released in 2009. And since 2009, the copy and paste behavior in Messages hasn't changed one iota. To copy part of a message, you have no choice but to copy the entire message and paste it into a text field to finally copy the passage you want.

This behavior is extremely annoying, especially since it only exists on the iPhone. Because on macOS, Messages lets you select the specific text to copy, without forcing you to copy it in its entirety.

The arrival of iOS 26 will change this, however. Apple will finally allow you to copy only the part of the message you want. However, the manipulation is not very intuitive since it requires several steps to get there. You must first long-press on the message, then tap the Select option. The entire text of the message will then be highlighted and you can act on one of the two handles displayed to adjust your selection.

But here again, this system is far from perfect. Because to adjust the selection with the upper handle, the risk of pressing the option bubble is almost inevitable. With iOS 26 currently only in its second developer beta, Apple's teams still have some time to rectify the situation.
