It's been years since Marvel Studios announced its series about Riri Williams, considered the heir to Iron Man in the comics - and in the MCU, although her on-screen status is still unclear. Played by Dominic Thorne, seen in Black Panther 2, the superhero arrives tomorrow on Disney+. Our colleagues across the Atlantic have already been able to see the 6 episodes of this mini-series, and here's what they thought of it.
Ironheart, a series with a difficult gestation
This week being a heatwave, you might as well watch a series in the cool of your fan. And why not Ironheart, the new Marvel production? Starring the young Dominic Thorne, this 6-episode mini-series of about an hour arrives tomorrow on Disney+. Produced by Ryan Coogler, the director of the Black Panther and Creed franchises and the horror film Sinners, Ironheart follows Riri Williams as she builds a suit of armor to fight Parker Robbins/The Hood (Anthony Ramos), initially introduced as an ally. As she builds herself as a superhero, the young woman discovers a secret that will lead her to fight The Hood's magic with his technology. The series takes place in Chicago, after the events of Wakanda Forever. Alden Ehrenreich, Han Solo from the spin-off Solo: A Star Wars Story, plays Joe McGillicuddy, a friend of the main character.
What is Ironheart worth?
Should we give in to Ironheart, or give it a miss? According to our colleagues, the MCU miniseries is very successful. The enthusiasm across the Atlantic is reminiscent of that reserved for Agatha All Along, the pleasant Marvel surprise that no one, including us, expected.
The first 3 episodes of Marvel's Ironheart are good.. the last 3 episodes are GREAT! It's a lot more emotional than I expected & I found myself crying quite often. Dominique Thorne is a freaking star. Her chemistry with Lyric Ross - phenomenal! Episode 6 had me like #Ironheart pic.twitter.com/j3zpkNeLVD

The first 3 episodes of Ironheart are good, but the last 3 are GREAT! It's much more emotional than I expected, and I found myself crying quite a bit. Dominique Thorne is a true star. Her chemistry with Lyric Ross is phenomenal! I was speechless in front of Episode 6.
-adding an unexpected layer of legacy to RiRi's journey. And without spoiling anything, there's a character introduced late in the season that really makes the show stand out. (2/2) #Ironheart

While I'm not personally the biggest fan of the mix of technology and mysticism, Ironheart turned out to be better than I expected—especially in the last two episodes. What stood out to me most was the connection to the first Iron Man, which adds an unexpected depth to RiRi's legacy. And without spoiling anything, a character introduced at the end of the season really makes the series stand out.
We have seen all 6 episodes of IRONHEART#Ironheart is a decent MCU series saved by a surprisingly strong final episode that is among the best finales of Marvel Television Riri's character development is a little thin. But the vfx really stood out in the entire series. pic.twitter.com/cituvOnwvI

Ironheart is a decent MCU series, saved by a surprisingly strong finale that ranks among Marvel Television's best finales. Riri's character development is a bit light, but the visual effects really stand out throughout the series.
#IronHeart is a beautiful, relatable tale about the struggle of success, the heartbreak of life & the desperation to make a name 4 yourself. I had the opportunity and to watch #Ironheart and it was amazing! The show was produced incredibly well, loved the cast, and the writing was solid & keeps raising the stakes each episode. It was a long time coming but it was worth the wait because they knocked it out of the park. pic.twitter.com/EJdZN5w292

I had the opportunity to watch Ironheart and it was great! The series was incredibly well-produced, I loved the cast, the storyline is solid and raises the stakes with each new episode. It took a long time, but it was worth it because they did everything to make it work.
The first three episodes of #Ironheart are out tomorrow, and your resident Marvel cynic is here to say: it's quite good! It's a shame the series has been in flux, because Disney+ has something great on their hands. Dominique Thorne is pure dynamite. Alden Ehrenreich is... pic.twitter.com/JNGzBEAw64

The first three episodes of Ironheart drop tomorrow, and your cynical Marvel critic is here to say it: it's pretty good! It's a shame the show dragged on so long, because Disney+ has something excellent on its hands. Dominique Thorne is pure dynamite. The choice of Alden Ehrenreich is perfect.
Between the praise given to the lead actress, the visibly successful special effects, and a final episode teased as exceptional, Ironheart seems worth the detour!
