Expected to hit theaters in July 2026, the next Spider-Man film, starring Tom Holland, will begin filming in England this summer. While much mystery surrounds this future production, we have just learned that Marvel has officially announced the return of this cult hero in the film Spider-Man: Brand New Day.
The cast of Spider-Man: Brand New Day is revealed
For now, we know very little about Spider-Man: Brand New Day. What we do know is that Tom Holland will once again be donning the Peter Parker costume and will be joined by his on-screen and real-life partner, Zendaya, and Jacob Batalon. They will reprise their roles as MJ and his best friend, Ned, respectively. Finally, recently, we learned that Stranger Things star Sadie Sink will also be starring in the film, but we don't yet know for which role.
Plot-wise, the feature film takes place just after the events of the previous installment, Spider-Man: No Way Home. It was in this episode that Peter Parker's identity was erased from the collective memory.
The return of this hero delights Marvel fans
Today, it's a hero who will make his return in Brand New Day, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter. Indeed, the American media explains that Marvel plans to bring back The Punisher, the character played by Jon Bernthal. The actor made his debut as Frank Castle in the Netflix series Daredevil and then had his own series for two seasons. Recently, he reprised his role as the Punisher in Daredevil: Born Again on Disney+.
This will be the first time Bernthal will play his character in a movie. With his arrival in the Spider-Man universe, we imagine that the production should be darker than the previous installments. It should also offer us intense action scenes. Still, the announcement of the return of The Punisher in Spider-Man: Brand New Day has created excitement among fans who are hoping and already imagining that the two heroes could form an alliance.
For the record, Jon Bernthal and Tom Holland know each other well since they had already collaborated together in 2015 on the set of Pilgrimage and helped each other prepare for their auditions to join the Marvel universe. They will be starring in The Odyssey, the next film by Christopher Nolan. For his part, Jon Bernthal is co-writing a TV movie centered on Frank Castle that will be available on Disney+
Spider-Man: Brand New Day, directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, will be released on July 29, 2026 in French theaters.
