Marvel: Deadpool director unveils his surprising X-Men film project

The first Deadpool film was directed by Tim Miller and launched a successful franchise since, as a reminder, when the big-mouthed mercenary entered the MCU with Deadpool & Wolverine, the opus was a box office hit. Almost 10 years after the first feature film, its director has just unveiled his X-Men film project for Marvel and the least we can say is that it's astonishing.

It was in February 2016 that fans discovered Deadpool in the cinema, played by Ryan Reynolds and directed by Tim Miller. This first film would lead to two other feature films, the last of which, released last July, was a box office hit. Indeed, the production led by the Reynolds/Jackman duo has surpassed the symbolic billion dollar mark in revenue.

After kicking off the Deadpool franchise, Tim Miller devoted himself to two animated series, namely Love Death + Robots for Netflix and Secret Level for Prime Video. Interviewed by The Hollywood Reporter on the occasion of the release of season 4 of his Netflix series, the director said he was ready to return to the world of superheroes, a universe he really enjoys.

Tim Miller spoke to the American media outlet, stating that he was a big fan of Thunderbolts*, the latest Marvel production which, despite excellent reviews, did not necessarily receive the expected box office success:

I thought Thunderbolts* was excellent. Florence Pugh was incredible. All the other actors did a remarkable job, and the action was good and realistic. Overall, the film was thematically coherent.

X-Men fan Tim Miller has his own idea for a Marvel movie

Miller is full of praise for the film by Jake Schreier, who is in talks to direct the first X-Men film for Marvel. In fact, for him, mutants are something that the Kevin Feige-led studio hasn't had the opportunity to exploit yet. It was the X-Men universe that inspired Tim Miller to get into comics:

The X-Men are my favorite characters. I wrote to Kevin Feige and said, 'If you'll allow me to do something in the Marvel Universe, please, it will be the X-Men.'

The director of Deadpool took the opportunity to reveal that before Disney bought Fox, he had a mutant movie project:

I had an X-Men movie in development at Fox at the time of the merger that would have been great: X-Men 143, a mix of Home Alone and Alien.

A title that refers to the comic book Uncanny X-Men #143 with a plot centered on the character of Kitty Pryde, a role played by Elliot Page (then credited as Ellen Page) in X-Men: The Last Stand and X-Men: Days of Future Past. Who knows, maybe one day Tim Miller will have the chance to direct this film.
