With such a long history, the MCU has inevitably had some hiccups. This is particularly the case for certain villains who were wasted despite having the potential to become some of the franchise's greatest villains. However, the length of the MCU can work in their favor, giving them a second chance. According to the latest rumors, Marvel is considering reintegrating an underutilized villain into its future projects.
Marvel in search of renewal
Marvel is currently going through a rather troubled period from which it is struggling to emerge. The film Thunderbolts*, despite its qualities, only grossed $376 million at the global box office, a fairly low score. The studio could, however, turn things around quite easily thanks to Fantastic Four: Beginning, and especially with the next two Avengers films.
Doomsday and Secret Wars will offer Marvel a golden opportunity to renew itself. This will notably involve the imminent arrival of the X-Men, whose dedicated film has already found its director. However, this renewal will also concern old characters who deserve a fresh start. This is the case for Hela, who could make her return, and probably in Thor 5. She certainly won't be the only villain to return, since Marvel would like to exploit a villain who will make his return in Vision Quest.
Ultron will make his return in Vision Quest... but not only that
Vision Quest is the series that will conclude the "trilogy" dedicated to the Scarlet Witch, after Wandavision and Agatha All Along. The series, scheduled for 2026, will mark the return of the White Vision, Star Lord, Billy Maximoff - in the guise of a new actor -, and Ultron. The latter will finally return to the forefront since Avengers 2, and he doesn't intend to stop there. Indeed, according to the famous insider DanielRPK, Marvel is considering using the character in several projects after the series. A very promising announcement, which we hope will come to fruition.
Ultron is an iconic villain in the comics, but he hasn't received the same treatment in the MCU. Created by Tony Stark and Bruce Banner in Avengers: Age of Ultron, the robot never had the opportunity to reveal his full potential. Ousted too quickly and placed between two behemoths such as Loki and Thanos, he nevertheless showed that he could be a major threat in What If...?. By his very nature, Ultron can also be used in a variety of ways. In the comics, he can split his consciousness into different bodies. Finally, with the current debates surrounding AI, bringing Ultron back into the MCU seems almost a necessity.
