Mass Effect: The Prime Video series announces huge news

When will Mass Effect 5 be released? Unfortunately, it won't be for several years, and for good reason. After suffering from the chaotic launch of Anthem, BioWare studio was further affected by the disappointing performance of Dragon Age 4: The Veilguard, deemed by EA. According to rumors, the upcoming space opera epic won't be expected until 2028 or even 2029 on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC... as well as Xbox Series 2, or whatever the console will be called, and PS6? This is one of the possible scenarios at the moment. Meanwhile, the Prime Video TV series is letting us know where it stands and announcing some huge news.

The Prime Video's Mass Effect Series Finds a Commander

Let's face it, after the success of The Last of Us, there's a good chance we'll see more and more TV shows adapted from video games. But even before this success, Amazon announced in 2021 that it had entered into negotiations to acquire the rights to Mass Effect for its Prime Video streaming platform. Three years later, Daniel Casey came aboard the project as lead writer and executive producer. His name was notably featured in the credits of the blockbuster Fast & Furious 9. A new big reveal has been made, and this time, it concerns the showrunner.

To direct the Mass Effect TV series, Prime Video has recruited Doug Jung, the writer of Star Trek Beyond, The Cloverfield Paradox, and two episodes of the Netflix show Mindhunter. He will also be writing and producing one of the upcoming Apple TV+ series starring Jason Momoa: Chief of War. "Amazon MGM Studios' long-in-the-making Mass Effect TV series is taking a major step forward in development with the hiring of Doug Jung (Chief of War) as showrunner," Deadline reveals. For now, that's pretty much all we know about the Mass Effect series for Prime Video. It is indeed confirmed that it will be supervised by Michael Gamble, a veteran of the franchise who joined the BioWare teams at the time of the second game. As for a release date, it's like ME5, that is to say "When it's done"!
