Praised by a large number of series and movie buffs, the series Mindhunter is about to make its big comeback, to the delight of fans. We tell you everything!

Is the Mindhunter sequel finally on the way?

For the past ten years, Netflix has managed to build its hegemony by producing numerous series and films. While some are highly appreciated, the platform is the subject of much criticism, with many subscribers accusing it of prioritizing quantity over quality. So much so that several productions have been canceled after their first seasons. But a few series clearly stand out from the rest, and Mindhunter is often cited as one of the best ever produced by the platform.

It must be said that in addition to positioning itself as the most worthy heir to Jonathan Demme's masterpiece The Silence of the Lambs, by recounting the beginnings of profiling techniques developed by the FBI from the end of the 1970s, Mindhunter benefits from the immense directorial talent of David Fincher, the director of some of the greatest thrillers of the last three decades, including Se7en, Zodiac and Gone Girl. Known as a gifted and manic director, David Fincher managed to propel the series to the status of a masterpiece, to the point that he is widely considered the show's great craftsman.

Unfortunately, despite the series' excellent reputation, Mindhunter never received a third season. Although Netflix never officially announced its cancellation, David Fincher has repeatedly announced that the series would not return for a new season, due to the excessive budget requirements - given the number of views - that such a project would require. For his part, Fincher continued to work in collaboration with Netflix by producing the series Death, Love & Robots and directing the feature films Mank and The Killer. Currently, the filmmaker is working on the sequel to Quentin Tarantino's masterpiece Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, which he will direct while the director of Pulp Fiction and Reservoir Dogs will write the screenplay.

While all hopes of a sequel to Mindhunter had been extinguished, we learned today on the American media CBRthat the series is about to make its big comeback. This is not just a rumor, but information from one of the main people involved, since it was actor Holt McCallany - who plays Bill Tench, one of the three main roles in the series - who reported conversations he had with David Fincher.

A few months ago, I spoke with David Fincher in his office and he told me that there was a possibility that the series would return in the form of three two-hour films. I know there are writers working on it, but David must be happy with these scripts.

Recalling that everything will depend on David Fincher's schedule and desire after reading the scripts, Holt McCallany says he is very enthusiastic about the possible return of Mindhunter. Of course, nothing is 100% certain at the moment, but this is the most encouraging news we've had since the airing of season 2 in 2019. It should also be noted that it is not uncommon for Netflix to produce films to conclude major series. We're thinking in particular of the films Luther and Peaky Blinders, two BBC series that were transferred to the Netflix label with the release of a new film. So, watch this space!
