Nintendo Switch 2: Several ultra-popular games have been quietly updated, here's what's changing

The Nintendo Switch 2 has been available since June 5, 2025, and has already sold more than 3.5 million copies in four days. These figures show that early fans have been there, but it remains to be seen whether this momentum will be maintained in the coming weeks and months, knowing that the next event will be the release of Donkey Kong Bananza. A future exclusive that already seems to be catching the eye of some and could well lead to unexpected purchases.

Switch 1 games are getting better on Nintendo Switch 2

If you have already purchased the Nintendo Switch 2, and before the launch of Donkey Kong Bananza on July 17, 2025, we recommend you take a look at the big exclusive of the moment: Mario Kart World. The console's truly new game that won't be released on the Switch 1. To expand the lineup, the Japanese manufacturer has also approached a bunch of third-party publishers for ports like Cyberpunk 2077, and has also deployed a number of free and paid updates for existing games.

In order to improve this backward compatibility aspect, several ultra-popular games have been discreetly updated thanks to the latest Nintendo Switch 2 system patch. Among the titles spotted, there is one of the Switch 1's biggest hits, the fighting game Super Smash Bros Ultimate. What changes after this latest firmware? When a Switch player was in a match with a Nintendo Switch 2 player, and one of them was using a Mii fighter, the game would sometimes end. In addition, when creating, modifying, or saving a Mii fighter, the thumbnail image of said fight might not display correctly. There's no fix yet, but you can re-register it to temporarily fix the problem.

Nintendo Switch Sports, which has sold 16.27 million units, has also been updated to fix various previously identified issues. Our colleagues at NintendoLife have also noticed that other software has received Nintendo Switch 2 updates. This is the case for Tony Hawk's Pro Skater, Capcom Fighting Collection 2, Crash Bandicoot N Sane Trilogy, as well as Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection.
