The recent events of One Piece foreshadowed a huge battle. However, in Chapter 1152, Eiichiro Oda takes everyone by surprise by delivering numerous revelations, particularly about Elbaf and Shanks.
One Piece 1152: The truth about the Elbaf tragedy finally revealed
Chapter 1151 finally refocused the plot on Luffy and his companions after a long detour on the side of Imu and his horde of demons. With Chapter 1152, the trend continues, even if we only stay in the present for a short while before diving into Elbaf's past, alongside Shanks and Scopper Gaban in particular.
WARNING: SPOILERS FOR CHAPTER 1152 JUST BELOW
While our heroes seemed ready to fight at the end of Chapter 1151, they are likely on their way to the battlefield at the beginning of Chapter 1152. Instead of fighting, they are talking, but not for nothing. Scopper Gaban reveals that the Divine Knights are not invincible, and that Luffy will have to improve his Haki of Kings to defeat them, as we mentioned here. He even adds that Luffy is not the only Mugiwara capable of using this type of Haki. After Sanji jokes that it's him, the Pirate King's former left-hand man reveals that it's actually Zoro, something Luffy already knew.
The other major discussion concerns Loki's fate. Although he is determined to fight, Hajrudin stops him. In an attempt to free him, Luffy goes so far as to offer him a place on his crew. Unfortunately, no one, whether it's Loki himself, Hajrudin, Zoro, or Sanji, approves of the captain's plan, probably due to his criminal status. Scopper Gaban then speaks again and reveals that he and Shanks were present on Elbaf during the assassination of King Harald.
This is how a flashback begins, going back 14 years. We see Loki go to the castle to ask his father why he chose to align himself with the World Government, the very people who killed Rocks D. Xebec. Upon arriving, he finds King Harald pierced by his own recruits.
Meanwhile, Shanks and Scopper Gaban are reunited. Shanks, now bearing the mark of the Abyss on his arm, confides to Scopper Gaban that he once befriended King Harald and wishes to see him again. He also mentions that he wanted to form a crew with Buggy, but couldn't. Scopper Gaban replies that he couldn't because he is the boy in the prophecy. After this exchange, a mysterious figure appears and steals a legendary Devil Fruit from Elbaf.
Chapter 1152 ends with the beginning of a new flashback, going back 109 years, where we discover a young King Harald running amok in a human kingdom.
