We've known since the beginning of May that Netflix had planned to reveal season 2 of the live-action One Piece yesterday, Saturday, May 31, during its flagship event, Tudum. And fans of Luffy and his crew have been rewarded for their patience with a first visual of Tony Tony Chopper in action! Unfortunately, his design didn't really convince internet users...
Tony Tony Chopper, a character eagerly awaited by fans of One Piece
He's a character much appreciated by readers and viewers of One Piece: Tony Tony Chopper, the anthropomorphic reindeer created by Eiichiro Oda is as cute as he is impressive. Able to change shape and become an impressive colossus, this "plush" also has very useful medical knowledge to help his companions when they are injured or sick. Absent from season 1 of the Netflix live-action, he will be present in the cast of the sequel. The streaming platform opted for a VFX design rather than a puppet, which is less realistic and more complicated to animate. Unveiled in a trailer this Saturday, May 31st during Tudum, the character is nevertheless not unanimously popular with fans.
Fans disappointed by this live-action Chopper
We had already seen him in 2019 during the live-action adaptation of Sonic the Hedgehog: his final design had raised so much mockery from internet users that Paramount ended up modifying it before the film's release! This is not the first time that a character has missed the transition between animation and live action, and even if the opinions are less negative about Chopper, they are far from flattering...
