Forget Grey's Anatomy, here white coats don't save lives, they save games. 256 players, all adults and duly dressed as doctors, will compete in a tight competition where the slightest tremor is paid dearly: the red nose lights up, and elimination looms. To oversee this surgical theater of the absurd, 20 official referees will keep an eye on things and ensure the tweezers are clean.
The tone is light, but the organization is serious. Before the big start, an opening ceremony will clarify things: the rules, the playing areas... and even the relaxation area, where physiotherapy, yoga, and a psychological support unit await candidates who have been taken out of surgery too quickly. Because yes, we don't joke about the post-operative stress of a funny bone that was poorly extracted.
An atmosphere that oscillates between a hospital... and a museum
Big news for 2025: two new zones have been added to the event. First, a frustration zone equipped with a punching bag bearing the image of the most difficult pieces in the game, a little outlet for surgeons in distress. Then, a temporary museum, with a new work by New York artist Mile Ladin, designed especially for this championship with a unique concept in the world.
Since its first edition in 2021 with 18 participants, the championship has continued to grow. In 2022, there were 64. In 2023, 160. And in 2025, 256 competitors will try to inscribe their name in the pantheon of the most precise surgeons... on plastic.
The creator of the event, Joachim Charlot, himself reminds us: "During the last edition, the winner hadn't touched the game since she was 8 years old... and she left with the title of World Champion. Anything is possible at Docteur Maboul!" A philosophy that is the essence of this intergenerational event where amateurs and seasoned competitors rub shoulders in a joyful mix of skill, nostalgia and irony.
A cult game that's back!
And this championship wouldn't be complete without a little sniff at the game itself. For the occasion, Hasbro presents a brand new Doctor Mad, revamped and enhanced with two game modes: “Hospital” for purists of calm diagnosis, and “Emergency” for those who like to put themselves under pressure with a 60-second timer. Add crazy sound effects, a well-designed carrying case, and mechanics that are still as easy to use as ever... and you have a classic ready to conquer a new generation.
