Philips Hue transforms connected lighting with an immersive, AI-powered wall spotlight

Philips Hue transforms connected lighting with an immersive, AI-powered wall spotlight

Behind this slightly technical name, the Play Wall Washer hides a true feat of design and lighting efficiency. The projector, designed to blend into the decor even when turned off, relies on ColorCast technology to project a dynamic light gradient over large wall surfaces. Its matte aluminum silhouette contrasts radically with classic plastic entertainment lights, asserting its place in the living room as a decorative object in its own right.

But it's once turned on, especially in synchronization with audio or video content, that the Play Wall Washer reveals its full potential. Thanks to the dynamic entertainment algorithm integrated into the Hue ecosystem, the light adapts its lighting effects in real time according to the atmosphere of a game, a film or a piece of music. A visual experience enhanced by the ability to precisely adjust the projection distance and angle via the mobile app. The device connects seamlessly to all other Hue products, the HDMI Sync box, and sync platforms for PCs or TVs. It is also compatible with Alexa, Google Assistant, and Apple HomeKit.

The Hue Play Wall Washer is available for €199 each, €349 for a set of 2.

Artificial intelligence that understands your lighting desires

In parallel with this launch, Philips Hue is strengthening the capabilities of its AI assistant integrated into the app. This technology, announced at the beginning of the year, is now available in the Netherlands, Belgium, and Luxembourg, with a rollout planned for the United Kingdom in July, followed by the rest of the world by the end of August.

The goal? To create even more natural and intuitive lighting ambiances. The user can now describe an emotion, an atmosphere, or an occasion, and the assistant will generate a tailor-made lighting scene. If no pre-existing scene is suitable, the AI will generate a new one on request. A more human and contextual approach to home automation, which moves away from simple pre-programmed scenarios.

The system is still in its early stages. Other features are expected in the coming months: creation of routines, scalable automations and integration of a chatbot to guide users in their use of the platform.

With this double launch, Signify, the parent company of Philips Hue, confirms its desire to make light much more than a simple connected switch. The Play Wall Washer enriches an already dense ecosystem, where design, multimedia synchronization and personalization through artificial intelligence combine to offer a complete lighting experience.
