The day before the release of the Nintendo Switch 2—here are the 25 games planned for launch—competitor Sony decided to hold a State of Play event to take stock of its upcoming releases. While there were few big surprises, we were nonetheless delighted by a conference that focused on Japanese games. We take a look at the most notable announcements!
#10 Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls
The Arc System Works studio, behind Dragon Ball FighterZ, returns with Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls, a 4v4 fighting game. Superheroes and villains from the House of Ideas will face off in arenas. While we're not particularly excited by the offering, there's no doubt that fighting game fans will enjoy it. Release scheduled for 2026!
#9 Mortal Kombat Kollection
Fighting game fans also had their moment of hesitation with the announcement of Mortal Kombat Kollection, a compilation including the arcade and mobile games of the license. Announced are: Mortal Kombat, Mortal Kombat 2, Mortal Kombat 3, Mortal Combat 3 Ultimate, Mortal Kombat 4 and many other games. The bundle will be released later in 2025. We'll keep you posted!
#8 Astro Bot
The 2024 GOTY winner returns with new additional content: five new levels, completely free and playable from July 10. The support provided by Japanese studio Team Asobi is certainly exemplary. Note that a new collector's controller has been unveiled.
#7 Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater
A few weeks before the release of Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, Hideo Kojima fans have had new gameplay footage of Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, the long-awaited remake of the 2004 cult classic. Nothing new under the sun, except for what looks very much like a multiplayer mode! Answer on August 28, 2025 for confirmation.
#6 Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles
While we were hoping for news of the third installment of the remake of Final Fantasy VII Remake, Sony and Square Enix have announced a remake of the tactical-RPG Final Fantasy Tactics released in 1997 on PlayStation, confirming the rumors that had been circulating since 2021. A great opportunity for fans who haven't played this cult game to discover it, and to immerse themselves in the world of Ivalice. Release scheduled for September 30, 2025!
#5 007: First Light
While fans eagerly await the reveal of Daniel Craig's replacement as James Bond in the big screen, Amazon MGN Studios has launched production on a video game: 007: First Light. Developed by IO Interactive (Hitman), the game, scheduled for release in 2026, will immerse us in the adventures of a young 007 agent. This promising narrative game will take a cinematic approach and include vehicle sequences. We're very curious about the final result!
#4 Silent Hill F
Announced in October 2022, Konami's Silent Hill F was revealed through an intense trailer. The famous horror franchise will return on September 25, 2025, after a ten-year absence. This new game will not take place in the town of Silent Hill, but more generally in a small rural town in 1960s Japan. A first for the series!
#3 Sword of the Sea
Developed by Californian studio Giant Squid, Sword of the Sea could well become the AA of the summer. Scheduled for release on August 19, 2025, it immerses us in a colorful universe reminiscent ofJourney - director Matt Nava, formerly of thatgamecompany, was the creative director. In any case, we were won over by the adventures of this hero who uses his sword like a surfboard to explore varied terrain (oceanic, desert, mountainous).
#2 Pragmata
Announced in 2020 by Capcom, Pragmata is a very promising adventure and science fiction game. While the game had slipped under the radar after being postponed without a release date, the developers of Resident Evil and Devil May Cry have finally revealed new images, and a release window: 2026. One of the most exciting games at the State of Play!
#1 Nioh 3
Japanese studio Team Ninja has just made Nioh 3 official, with the first images revealed. A return to Sengoku-era Japan, with highly technical gameplay reminiscent of rival studio FromSoftware's productions (Elden Ring, Dark Souls, Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice). Two fighting styles will be offered: samurai and ninja. Although it's announced for 2026, a demo is already available on PlayStation 5.
