This Wednesday, June 5, 2025, at 11:00 p.m. (French time), you'll be able to discover "information and updates about essential titles coming soon to PS5." The new State of Play, some of whose surprises have already been leaked, will take place at the indicated time. And it's a big event, no doubt, because the manufacturer is promising a broadcast of more than 40 minutes. It remains to be seen whether this time will be used wisely or not. While we wait to find out the program, PlayStation 5 consoles are being updated. Here's what's changing.
The PS5 update of June 4, 2025
Last April, all PS5s were updated with firmware 25.03-11.20.00. A much more comprehensive update than usual, adding more options to fine-tune your audio profile. It also brought back a feature highly requested by the community. Regardless of the console model, it's possible to customize the interface with elements from older PS1, PS2, PS3, or PS4 consoles. This new feature was a welcome addition, but it still disappointed some due to a limitation: the absence of the PlayStation 1 boot.
It's unclear whether this will be implemented later, but the PS5 FAT, Slim, and PlayStation 5 Pro are moving to version 25.04-11.40.00 starting today. And unfortunately, this update pales in comparison to the previous one. But for once, we're avoiding the "performance improvement" refrain.
What's new in this new PS5 update available to everyone? Well, not much, if anything. Indeed, the notes only mention an "improvement of messages and the ergonomics of certain screens". An element that comes up as often as the improvement of the system stability.
Patch notes for version 25.04-11.40.00
Here are the full notes for patch 25.04-11.40.00 PS5. Note that this firmware weighs 1.3 GB. "The file size may be smaller than that of updates made directly by the user from the console" specifies PlayStation.
