Ragnar le Breton accused of violence, a real beating

The name Matthias Quiviger may not mean anything to you, but you probably know him better under his pseudonym Ragnar le Breton, known for "slapping for fun". The man has just been tried in the Évreux court and sentenced to one year in prison, with no possible sentence reduction. He appeared in court because he was accused of assaulting a father in a stadium in Eure last March. The events date back to March 27, 2025. The victim decided to take his two children to the stadium and took the opportunity to take a nap in his car during training. The man explained that he felt his vehicle moving and initially thought it was a joke made by his son. He then asked for him to stop, then raised his voice and repeated his request. He was then confronted by an angry man who spoke rudely to him from the passenger window. The individual walked around the vehicle and ordered the father to get out. Refusing, he opens the door and starts hitting him.

According to the public prosecutor, the scene is extremely violent and speaks of a "real beating". The events took place in front of the victim's 12-year-old son. The father tried to protect himself and alert witnesses to come to his aid. In the end, the victim was subject to a 40-day total work stoppage and is still on sick leave.

Tried this Monday in court, Ragnar le Breton was sentenced to one year in prison and ordered to pay 2,000 euros to the son and a provisional sum of 5,000 euros to the father, the victim of his beatings. He was not present at the hearing, nor was his lawyer, which could explain the heavy sentence.

Ragnar le Breton gives his version and decides to appeal

After this conviction, Ragnar le Breton gave his version of events in a video published on social media. He also apologized for his absence, thinking that the hearing was scheduled for this Tuesday. The comedian gave a different version of events than the victim. He explained that he was in a "situation of self-defense" after trying to apologize for leaning against the vehicle's taillight. It was then that the victim allegedly became aggressive and insulted him. Then, the man allegedly grabbed him by the neck and physically assaulted him. It was at this point that Ragnar the Breton declared: "It's the opening of the ball, so I threw a few pralines," "I hit him with a right and he was knocked out."

The 35-year-old comedian has announced that he will appeal his conviction.
