Here we go again! The RATP is once again increasing its fines, in an effort to deter Parisians from cheating on the metro, RER, or bus. As you will see below, this is not a small increase that will be applied: a measure that triggers the indignation of Internet users.
RATP increases (significantly) the price of fines
After increasing its prices for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, RATP announces an increase in the price of its fines. Don't expect to have to pay a few euros more: that's an additional twenty euros you'll have to pay to the ticket inspectors if you cheat on the metro! Since yesterday, Monday, June 2, the Paris Transport Authority has been implementing these new fares to fine metro fares-dodging. Announced in May, this measure aims to "improve the effectiveness of the fight against fare fraud." The fare fine for immediate payment therefore increases from 50 to 70 euros. And to encourage fare evaders to pay their fine immediately (without the risk of them contesting it?), the RATP also increases its prices if you choose to pay later. Below the 90-day limit, the fine increases to 120 euros, and then to 180 euros after 90 days. If you have a Navigo Pass, don't forget to validate it at the terminals: the fine for not validating your subscription increases from 5 to 15 euros for buses and trams, and from 35 to 70 euros for RER and Metro.
Outraged Internet Users
This is not the first time that users have been subjected to an increase in fines for fraud, or even to an increase in transport service prices in Île-de-France. The transport ticket increased in 2025 to a single fare formula at 2 euros (bus or tram) or 2.50 euros (metro, train and RER) for all residents of Île-de-France. As for the Navigo pass, in 2025, it increased by 2.40 euros to reach 88.80 euros per month (until 2023, it cost 75.10 euros per month...). On X, Internet users express their anger and frustration.

Bingo for the greedy #RATP agents who receive 10% of the fines paid on the spot. So they don't fine illegal immigrants or thugs, but only the good idiots who let themselves be extorted without saying anything. pic.twitter.com/STh98cqJZH
For me the RATP is a terrorist organization https://t.co/oD9HqnHNoV

Real question: why fine those who have a Navigo pass but forgot to validate it? In any case, they already pay their subscription

There's no doubt about it, the measures put in place by the RATP are strongly condemned by Internet users... Who will have no other recourse than to pay them on the spot or to contest them, hoping to win their case.
