Resident Evil 9 leaked again just before its big announcement

Resident Evil 9 leaked again just before its big announcement

The Resident Evil saga continues to fuel fantasies and rumors from insiders. And just days before Summer Game Fest 2025, all attention is turning to Resident Evil 9, an episode as mysterious as it is ambitious. Its announcement is said to be imminent, and leaks are piling up to paint a rather detailed picture of what Capcom is preparing behind the scenes. Just yesterday on Gameblog, we were able to tell you about the information from prolific insider Dusk Golem.

Resident Evil 9 is becoming even more precise

It's now almost a certainty, Resident Evil 9 should be revealed during Summer Game Fest, on June 6. Several reliable insiders, in addition to Dusk Golem, such as the site MP1st, are suggesting a 95% probability for a first trailer at the event. This information is also relayed by the YouTube channel Screenfire Gaming, which is counting on a release at the end of March 2026, to mark the 30th anniversary of the series.

According to Dusk Golem, Resident Evil 9 has been in the works since 2017. Originally, the game was supposed to be released before Village and serve as a direct sequel to Resident Evil 7. But Capcom ultimately decided to release RE8 earlier, postponing the project. Since then, RE9 has undergone two development reboots: the first during the COVID-19 pandemic, the second in 2022. This long journey has allowed Capcom to revise its ambitions upwards. Today, RE9 is described as the biggest Resident Evil project ever, with the biggest budget of the franchise and numerous teams involved, both internally and externally.

Leon is back, but not alone

Resident Evil 9 would mark the return of Leon S. Kennedy as the main hero. This would be the conclusion of his personal trilogy (RE2, RE4, RE9). Dusk Golem adds that he will not be the only playable character, but that the game will offer a single-player campaign, without a co-op mode.

RE9 will not be co-op, contrary to initial plans. Leon is the hero, but not the only playable character

Also note that Resident Evil 9 will not be an open-world, but will offer much larger areas, according to Dusk Golem. Capcom's ambition is clear: to reinvent the formula, as RE7 did in its time. The game would be in third-person view and would focus on a very horror atmosphere, far from the intense action of RE4. The atmosphere is described as "strongly gothic".

A narrative turning point for the franchise

Capcom wants Resident Evil 9 to be a conclusive game, but also a new beginning for the franchise. The idea is to complete the narrative arc started with RE1, while opening the door to more independent stories, less tied to characters and numbered titles.

They want to abandon the numbering of games to allow for more unique stories," says Dusk Golem. RE9 will probably not have a number in its title.

This change in philosophy marks a break with the series' habits, and could well radically renew the universe. We just have to wait for the Summer Game Fest to have details.
