Fans of the Silent Hill license have something to smile about right now. On September 25th, players will be able to discover Silent Hill f, a horror adventure transporting players to 1960s Japan, in the isolated town of Ebisugaoka.
Silent Hill 2 Remake, developed by Bloober Team, stood out for its high quality while assuming to reinterpret certain passages of the adventure in October 2024. The film adaptation of Konami's cult game, however, has been long awaited since its announcement in 2022. Good news, the film entitled Return to Silent Hill finally has a release date.
Return to Silent Hill, the adaptation of Silent Hill 2, in theaters on January 23, 2025
The media Deadline reveals that the film Return to Silent Hill will be released in theaters on January 23, 2025. “Return to Silent Hill is coming to theaters at the perfect time, following the recent and successful launch of the Silent Hill 2 remake on which the film is based, while also celebrating the 20th anniversary of the launch of the horror film franchise,” said Mark Rupp, CFO and co-founder of Iconic Events Releasing, which is producing the film with Cineverse and Bloody Disgusting.
It should be remembered that the director and co-writer is none other than Christophe Gans, who also helmed the 2006 feature film Silent Hill. The film was critically acclaimed ($100 million at the box office), leaving fans hoping that Return to Silent Hill will live up to the cult game.
Especially since Akira Yamaoka, the historic composer of the license, is participating in the project. Remember that Silent Hill 2 tells the story of James Sunderland, who receives a strange letter from his wife Mary, who died three years earlier. She asks him to come and get her in Silent Hill, "in our place."
In Return to Silent Hill, James is played by Jeremy Irvine while Hannah Emily Anderson plays Mary. Note that the last trailer for the film, released in May 2024, was simply removed from all platforms by Konami. To this day, it is impossible to know why the trailer was subjected to such treatment.
You can still watch the trailer below, as a user managed to keep it. Remember that Konami and Bloober Team have just announced more good news to fans: the development of a remake of the first Silent Hill.
